Experiencing a safari is a transformative journey into the wild, where each encounter with nature deepens our appreciation for conservation and the delicate balance of ecosystems. It’s not just about seeing wildlife; it’s about understanding our place in their world. #africa#conservation#travel#botswana#okavangodelta#safari
Following Painted Wolves on a hunt must be one of the most exciting ways to spend a morning on safari.
The dogs cover ground quickly so the open floodplains of northern Botswana make for easy following. By the time we realised they made a kill, the impala was almost finished.
They are highly social, strikingly beautiful and superbly adapted for their lifestyle. So it's hard to imagine that a lot of visitors to Southern Africa don't even know what they are.

It really is a unique safari experience walking in the Okavango Delta's Dusk. Hippo and African Jacana calling and dust changing the sunset to crimson moments.
This is one of the best African destinations for wild walking, game viewing and moody afternoon light that invites incredible photo opportunities.

This leopard hasn't been seen in a while, so we were fortunate to spend time with him as he digested his recent warthog kill.
He is quite old and has definitely been in a few battles in the bush. The stories he could tell...

After 5 nights on an immersive wilderness trail in the Okavango Delta, it is amazing how people can settle into the experience and share close space with wild animals peacefully.
Would you feel comfortable getting up close and personal with wild animals in a respectful manner?

What is Wilderness Trail?
As it's a question we receive a lot, we decided to answer it briefly.
Many can be intimidated by being out in the wilds of the African savannah, among large and iconic animals. It's far safer than you'd think and the rewards are immeasurable.
If you're still not sure if this experience if for youbut want to know mor

I was walking behind him. All I could hear is the cicada's piercing call in the mopane woodland. His smell was strong but not unpleasant.
My footsteps were in his as I kept a fast walk to match his slow amble. He didn't know I was there as he kept moving towards some unknown place.
It was hot and the sand was burning my bare feet. I wondered how many miles those hardened soles of his have walked.
All I saw was his grey mass and huge ears gently swaying open and closed as we passed trees with autumn orange leaves.
I'll never forget the feeling of sharing space with an elephant in such an intimate way.
It has shaped the way I view and feel about elephants and nature in general. It is my mission to share these types of experiences with people and to cultivate this respect and awareness.

Following this lion as he scent-marked his territory at sunrise, we saw him stop at a marsh to have a drink. He's seen crocodiles before, and most likely seen one of his own taken by one.
In the Okavango, crocodiles are a real and present threat. It took him a while to figure out that he didn't like the look of this pool and moved off to find one which looked less reptilian.

When things happen in the bush, they happen quickly.
Day four of a five day wilderness trail in the Okavango Delta, Botswana. We were watching the mating lions that kept us up all night resting on a termite mound near by. It's easy to get distracted in the bush when presented with amazing sightings.
There was a moment I looked up and saw a herd of elephants running out the woodland towards us. There was a strong wind blowing in their direction and having smelled us, they got nervous and ran.
Getting guests behind a tree, we watched them run past and quickly assessed if there was going to be a confrontation. We waited for any body language signs indicating this and not seeing any, quietly watched them pass on their way to the nearest water hole.
Elephants are incredibly intelligent and sensitive. It is such a privilege to share space with them.
Several lessons keep repeating while spending time in the wild.
Keep a calm awareness, be respectful and always trust your gut.

Because of lions, we didn't get much sleep on the 3rd night of our 5 night wilderness trail in the Okavango. We sleep under the stars on these trails so each participant has to do an hour night watch each night. At about 2am, a guest saw lions walk next to camp in the floodplain, and naturally we all got up to watch. Two big males joined the females and decided to mate all night, which means every 15 minutes for hours on end there is intense roaring and snarling flooding our camp. African Bush Company.
