11 Karkloof is a rustic old Mushroom Farm in the beautiful KZN Midlands, only 6.5km from Howick, set in prime farmland of the Karkloof valley. The buildings have now been renovated and transformed into unique self-catering units, which accommodate 47 people in the 2 houses and 5 cottages. Some of the mushroom growing rooms have been converted into storage units and business premises and soon some

of the sheds will be wedding and conference venues. The farm is an ongoing project, with plans to transform the central office building, and convert the water reservoirs into glass topped refreshment areas for drinks and coffee. There is a large metal shed structure, which is on what was formally the compost yard as well as many other buildings which are still to evolve. The farm is the ideal starting point for mountain biking, surrounded by the best single track in Southern Africa, and for wonderful day trips exploring all the Midlands Meander has to offer. Restaurants, shopping centers, the Karkloof polo club, Karkloof Canopy tours, Karkloof Falls and Karkloof Conservancy are all in close proximity making it an ideal destination for the whole family and people from all walks of life. The cottages sleep 4 people, Round House sleeps 12 and Falls House sleeps 15. Each unit is self contained and fully furnished with 100% cotton linen and bath towels and a fully equipped kitchen, all offering spectacular views.

Our Story

We are located 6,5km away from town in the Karkloof Valley on a 12 hectare farm.

All our units are self-contained houses, which are cleaned thoroughly after every checkout and again before any of our guests check in.

There is plenty of space on the property to go for walks and experience the outdoors, away from the masses.

We provide complimentary hand and dishwashing soap and toilet paper during your stay.

We only have 7 staff on the property at one time during the week and two on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday), all of which have been informed of the current situation and instructed on the necessary steps.

Initially operating as a mushroom farm, the buildings have been transformed into unique, pet friendly, self-catering units, which accommodate 47 people in the 2 houses and 5 cottages. Home Slice cafe is on site, open for breakfasts and lunches Thursday - Sunday if you don`t feel like cooking.

The cottages sleep 4 people, Round House sleeps 12 and Falls House sleeps 15. Each unit is self-contained and fully furnished with 100% cotton linen and a equipped kitchen. All the units offer spectacular farm views. The farm is the ideal starting point for mountain biking, surrounded by the best single track in the country and for wonderful day trips exploring all the Midlands Meander has to offer. The Karkloof Farmers market is on the farm next door, just a walk across a field away on a Saturday morning. Restaurants, shopping centers, Karkloof Canopy tours, Karkloof Falls, the Karkloof polo club and Karkloof Conservancy are all in close proximity making it an ideal destination for the whole family and people from all walks of life.

We are currently in the second phase of the transformation, renovating the old growing tunnels into artisan rental spaces for local businesses . A few of the tunnels are already open for business. This includes a workshop space for hire to host classes, talks or demonstrations. A Cafe ( Home Slice Cafe), a vintage goods and designs shop and a coffee roastery.
