As the sun sets over Angama Amboseli and the Kimana Sanctuary, drinks at ’s Mnara are a must.

This special viewing tower has the perfect view of the surrounding sanctuary, the Chuylus Hills as well as Mt Kilimanjaro. And if you’re lucky some of the resident ellies will stroll past while visiting the marsh surrounding it.

We were treated to a remarkable sunset show with our Topi Pride while visiting last year and all settled firmly into our thousand yard stares for a bit.

One of those “this is why we do this” moments.

Ol Doinyo Lengai by helicopter with our fam.

Referred to as “The Mountain Of God” by the Maasai and Sonja people, this active volcano (it has had explosive eruptions as recently as 2008) in Tanzania is an awe inspiring sight and seeing it from the air is the only way to go. Luckily we had to get us there.

In May this year we had the sublime pleasure of visiting and experiencing , and to say we left feeling far lighter and freshly rejuvenated would be a massive understatement.

They’ve recently been named as 11th on the Telegraph Hotel Awards list of 50 extraordinary places to stay around the world, and we’re not surprised.

Nestled under the Franschhoek mountains, this biodiverse farm is not your standard wellness retreat. If you’re in the Cape or passing through, add this to your list as a must.

’s Ol Donyo Lodge has long been a firm favourite of ours, and for very good reason.

Every day here begins and ends with unbelievable views of Mount Kilimanjaro and watching the light change over the slopes or waiting for her to peak out from behind a cloud bank is the best kind of bush tv.

We popped in last year with our Topi Pride and much time was spent with eyes glued firmly on the vista.

Ol Donyo has plenty more to offer, and we’ll get into that in another post, but for now let’s take in that view.

is a masterpiece of comfortable design, exceptional farm-to-table cuisine and conservation excellence.

An ongoing project on 50 000 hectares of Kenyan savannah, their mission is to create a beautiful, sustainable relationship between the community, the wildlife, the landscape and the people who want to explore the region. Segera is inspired by a balance of 4 core concepts that they call the 4Cs: Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce. A stay with them helps support their 4C projects from solar farms and beading co-operatives to award winning “Waterbank” Schools and the female anti-poaching rangers academy. They also have an extensive reforestation project which is replenishing degraded land with the planting of 2 million trees - enhancing topsoil fertility, reducing erosion and helping to offset carbon emissions.

We visited last year with our Topi Pride, , and the hospitality we experienced with Jens and his team had us settling in like we were at home. And the food, we could wax lyrical about the food and the familial atmosphere around the dining table well into the night.

A very special corner of the world.

Topi’s forever.

Namibia is a country blessed with an abundance of spectacularly vast and beautiful landscapes, and Kaokoland may just be the most breathtaking of them all. Which is why decided to build Hoanib Valley Camp there.

An extremely remote, rugged and wild environment that not many will get to see, the experience in this unique area is something that touches your soul.

We visited a while ago with our fam and left feeling just that much lighter and fuller.

Words don’t really do justice when it comes to describing a Namibian Desert sunset, so we won’t try, but we can absolutely insist that it needs to experienced at least once in your lifetime.

Rwanda reminiscing.

A little while back we had the pleasure of travelling with our fam to sample the hospitality and the major bucket-list item of a gorilla trek in the forest.

Seeing these magnificent great apes in their natural habitat (along with the Chimpanzees and Golden Monkeys and other wildlife) is tricky to describe and is one of those sublime, right-here-right-now life moments that we hope everyone gets to experience at least once.

We’re making plans to return. Once wasn’t enough.

It’s World Ranger Day and today we salute and commemorate those who have dedicated their lives to being guardians of our natural and cultural heritage.

Without their courage and sacrifice the world we would be leaving for future generations would look very different.

While not as well known as The Great Migration, its breathtaking counterpart in East Africa, the zebra migration in Botswana is no less impressive.

There are actually two different movements of zebra, the first of which is the Nxai Pan Zebra Migration, between the Chobe River and Nxai Pan. The second movement of large herds is between the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and the Boteti River. This happens at certain times of year, depending on rainfall, and ’s Meno A Kwena lodge is the perfect place to view this dazzling spectacle.

Last year we had the pleasure of visiting in the Okavango Delta with our family. Needless to say, experiencing this masterpiece of art and design in the Moremi Game Reserve was a feast for the senses.

We spoke with the team today and Ben, the Xigera manager had this to say about this year’s flood season in the Delta:

“The flood has been very slow to progress but consistent with an average flood year with many areas now back filling.

We entering the peak of the flood with waters finally reaching the Thamlakane near Maun this week. Xigera has been blessed that being in a prime spot in the Okavango Delta we have been boating since early May and see this continuing till mid September.”

, a remarkable blend of rugged natural beauty and design-led luxury.

Situated in the dunes on the southern tip of Benguerra Island, 14km off the Mozambican coast, this sanctuary was created with the ideals of nature, culture and service living seamlessly together.

We visited recently and whenever we could tear ourselves away from doing very little pool-side in our private villas we were treated to exquisite meals in each of their restaurant locations (reached by zooting around in the electric Moke provided with your villa), long walks on completely deserted beaches, much needed visits to the wellness centre, bonfires on the beach and a lot of staring out to sea.

Kisawa is the sort of place you find yourself revisiting in your mind often once you’ve returned to real life and we’ve definitely done our fair share of staring out the window picturing azure seas and white sands recently.

As we celebrate our 27th birthday this week we’d like to take a moment to thank our team, without whom none of what we do would be possible.

At dmAFRICA we’re a tight family who work closely together to ensure that we’re offering the very best service possible as we create your journey and deliver on our promise of Everything Extraordinary.

These photos were taken on a team visit to GrootBos Private Nature Reserve earlier this year and while not all of our members were able to make it we were able to raise a toast to everyone and look forward to the next three decades of working with our clients and this incredible continent.

It’s our birthday today and we’re feeling reflective. It’s been a remarkable journey getting to this point and the gifts that Africa and its people have given us over the years are truly extraordinary.

As dmAFRICA celebrates its 27th year we wish to extend our thanks to our amazing team, our agents and all of our suppliers for being a part of this adventure with us and we look forward to continuing it into the future.

As we head into our 28th year we will continue to strive to live by our founding mantra and create “Everything Extraordinary” in the African region.

Cheers 🥂

Widely regarded as one of the most magnificent natural spectacles on earth, the Great Migration draws countless travellers each year to East Africa to witness this marvel firsthand.

Millions of wildebeest, along with zebra and impala make the life-preserving journey across the plains of Tanzania towards Kenya, driven by an instinctual need to find food and, in so doing, ensure the survival of their herds.

The energy is high during this period of endless movement so what are the best places to retreat to for deep rest and relaxation in between thrilling game drives?

CAN YOU IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT GIRAFFE?

Over the past 35 years, giraffe numbers have decreased by nearly 30%. In regions once considered prime habitats, their numbers have dropped by up to 95%, and giraffe have lost nearly 90% of their historical range over the last three centuries.
For every four elephant, only one giraffe remains in the wild in Africa—a drop of approximately 30% in the last three and a half decades.
With only approximately 117,000 giraffe remaining in the wild, the time is right to act NOW!
