At Wild Frontiers our love for travel in Africa continues to grow after 29 years. There have been many changes over the years, and we have adapted to these changes. Travel is now easier than ever, and this means that the number of tour operators has grown substantially. Setting your self apart from the crowd has become extremely important, so here are a few qualities that set us apart:

1) Owner

Managed and Operated: Directors John and Debbie Addison still deliver the same enthusiasm to Wild Frontiers as they did 26 years ago. From designing safaris, to leading them, to operating camps and lodges, and to training and employing staff. They offer their wealth of expertise, and continue to grow it, so they can give you the best possible experience on your next adventure through Africa.

2) Learned Experience: Experience itself is not a good teacher, but learned experience is. Founded in 1991, we’ve experienced and learnt a great deal in our 26 years. We’ve experienced all the moving parts that come together when designing a great holiday or safari. We operate and own camps, lodges, vehicles, boats, and employ wonderful staff and guides. With this breadth, and depth, of knowledge and expertise, we are speaking to you from a seasoned position of experience.

3) Creating and Not Just Selling: The safaris we present to you are not from a second party or tour operator. Our tailor-made itineraries are based on lived experience and not half-baked, abstract opinions. Our consultants have slept in the beds, eaten the food, met the people and done the activities…all they’re missing is the t-shirt. They’ve experienced what they’re selling you and know what they’re selling you. This means we are able to give you sound advice and suggestions when it comes to designing your dream holiday.

4) Invested in Your Experience and Enjoyment: It would be easy to sell you a tour package from a second party and then say that’s where the buck stops with us. The fact that we run and operate our own camps, lodges, vehicles, boats, and employ our own staff, shows that we are more invested in your experience and enjoyment. Our clients are not sale figures on a spreadsheet, we want you to have adventure after adventure with us.

5) Unique Destinations and Experiences: When it comes to travelling, the same experiences and trips come up a dime a dozen. At Wild Frontiers we want to take you to places less travelled. Unique destinations and experiences that evoke curiosity and pique your interests. We’ve operated trips to destinations such as the Central African Republic, Congo, Libya, Chad and Ethiopia.

6) Taking on New Challenges: Organising a massive event like a marathon would cause many people to lose sleep. As one of the founders and organisers of the Kilimanjaro Marathon and Victoria Falls Marathon we have gained invaluable lessons. This is testament that we take on new challenges and go beyond what we are comfortable and familiar with.

7) Conscious and Responsible Tourism - Our tours are only as good as the countries in which they’re run. We make sure that we give back to the countries in which we operate. A big part of this is employing and supporting local staff and guides. The money from your trip doesn’t just uplift them, but it positively impacts their families and the communities in which they live. If the environments, plants and animals we showcase to you were to disappear tomorrow, so would we. For this reason, we leave behind the smallest ecological footprint possible. We don’t cut corners when it comes to our guests, but we don’t compromise on protecting the environments in which we operate.

Another sensational review from a recent client of ours:

“There is no doubt that our 4 days with Wild Frontiers was the best African experience we have ever had. We want to thank you for the lengths you went to ensure that we had an amazing time. Our many hours with Severine, both in your Serengeti North Camp and Serengeti Wilderness Central Camp, was definitely the best experience for us. The camps were amazing, giving one a real experience of the bush and Africa. The drives were beyond our wildest expectation with Severine a star from start to finish. We are so grateful for your planning and advice on our behalf. We would not hesitate to recommend you guys to our friends, and in fact, we look forward to perhaps returning with some mates to share the Serengeti again. Truly it was everything we could have dreamt of and more.” 🇹🇿

Two days dedicated to raise awareness for two iconic African animals, and two members of the Big 5!

Conservation efforts are vital to protect these two species. At Wild Frontiers, we support numerous conservation projects, including the Serengeti De-Snaring Programme and the Large Carnivore Monitoring Project. By travelling with us, you are supporting these efforts and are helping protect both lions and elephants. 🐘 🦁

A lovely review we received from a client who recently did our FLY-IN GORILLA TREKKING package! 🇺🇬 🦍

“The trip was awesome! Wild Frontiers is a top-notch company that we would highly recommend.

The gorilla trekking experience was incredible! The 1st hike (Katwe family) was tough, we hiked for 2 hours each way. The 2nd trek (Rushegura family) was a very easy 15-minute hike. We so enjoyed the free massages at Buhoma after our trek. Our guide Ellis was fantastic! He communicated very well with us and was always in a super good mood.

Buhoma Lodge was exceptional, the food and staff were at a 5-star level.

Our close encounters with the gorillas and meeting nice and welcoming Ugandan people were absolute highlights.”

Meet the Shoebill: A Fascinating Giant of the Wetlands

The shoebill (Latin name: Balaeniceps rex) is a unique bird known for its massive, shoe-shaped bill and impressive size. Standing up to 5 feet tall with an 8.5-foot wingspan, it moves slowly and deliberately, resembling a living statue.

Some of the best places to try see these elusive creatures:
1. Uganda: Mabamba Swamp, Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, Semuliki National Park
2. Zambia: Bangweulu Wetlands
3. South Sudan: Sudd Swamp
4. Tanzania: Moyowosi-Kigosi Game Reserve
5. Rwanda: Akagera National Park

Sadly, shoebills are vulnerable due to habitat loss and illegal capture. Conservation efforts are crucial to protect these incredible birds and their wetland homes. 🌿
