Have you ever heard of “Gastronomy Tourism?”

If you’re a “foodie” or even just someone who enjoys visiting food markets, doing a cooking course in a foreign country or enjoying fine dining when you travel, this new term may apply to you. It’s one in which South Africa is not only excelling, but collecting accolades to prove it.

Five South African chefs have been awarded Michelin stars, and Cape Town has just been voted the 2024 “World’s Best Food City” by Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards. Some of Cape Town’s award-winning restaurants include Fyn, La Colombe, Chef’s Warehouse and Salsify at the Roundhouse. Johannesburg has not been left out either with winners such as Marble, Qunu and The Grillhouse.

And there are famous food markets in Braamfontein, Johannesburg and Cape Town’s Woodstock, Oranjezicht as well as a famous Cape Malay cooking course in Bo- Kaap.

Our very own Pulse Africa Travel Specialist Kath, travelled to Namibia to “test out” some fabulous properties for you.

She returned to Johannesburg beaming about her Namibian experience!

Do you know how rare it is to see a pangolin? These endangered, scaly mammals are often called the holy grail of the safari as they are so elusive. Our Managing Director, Sandy Wood has just returned from a trip to Namibia where she was lucky enough to spot one while on a night bushwalk.
