GOO GOO DOLLS IS DOING THEIR FIRST-EVER SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR THIS DECEMBER

The clock is ticking until Goo Goo Dolls touch down in South Africa for the very first time as part of their world tour. Fans of the alt-rock band will experience a live gig happening on 4 December 2024 at the Kirstenbosch Gardens in Cape Town before heading to the Durban International Convention Centre on 5 December. The final concert takes place on Saturday, 7 December at the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria.

On the setlist are some of their best-loved hits such as “Iris”, “Name”, “Black Balloon”, “Slide” as well as the newest single, “Beautiful Lie”. Supporting acts for the Pretoria concert are led by Matthew Mole, Ross Learmonth and Roan Ash.

Family, success, and coming to terms with childhood trauma - that’s what this new theatre production by one of the country's leading indie companies is about. In My Name is Lucy Barton, actress Julie-Anne McDowell delivers a solid one-person performance that delves into some complex, true-to-life circumstances.

The play follows the story of a successful American writer who wakes after an operation to find her estranged mother at the foot of her bed. Although the pair seem to reconnect fine, just below the surface lies tension and longing that have informed every aspect of Lucy’s life.

RED BULL SHOWRUN WILL BE SPEEDING THROUGH THE STREETS OF SANDTON NEXT SUNDAY

Adrenaline junkies and racing fans are in for an epic treat when Red Bull Showrun Joburg returns to the city on Sunday, 6 October. Katherine Street in Sandton will be converted into a massive custom-built racing track.

Hero racer David Coulthard and the Oracle Red Bull Racing Team will get behind the wheel to show off their incredible talent. Coulthard is a storied British racing legend who previously competed in Formula 1 for 15 seasons and gave Red Bull Racing its first podium finish way back in 2006 (only a year after the brand formally joined F1).

The day will also feature an intermission with live DJ beats, food vendors and free activities for racing fans of all ages.

THE STORY OF MODERN-DAY BALLET ICON, JOY WOMACK Joika, currently showing at selected cinemas across Johannesburg and Pretoria, follows the life story and career of American ballet dancer Joy Womack. Joy is one of the very few foreign dancers who rose to epic heights in the exclusive Moscow Bolshoi Academy, and it’s refreshing to see a film based on a young dancer who is currently at the peak of her career. In the film, Joy trains with the goal of becoming a Prima Ballerina at the company under the guidance of her mentor. But beyond the beauty of the ballet world lies immense dedication, pain, competitiveness, and a sacrifice of relationships and potentially her life all in a quest to find out what it truly means to be great.
