Hippos at Shishangeni Lodge
Peter's recent tour to the South African National Parks Kruger National Park and Shishangeni Lodge Kruger Park was with young family and their three-year-old son. On the game drives, they were delighted to have the entire vehicle to ourselves, as there was some worry about the young boy disturbing other guests. This never happened - he sat through each of the 3-hour games, only slipping once part of the way on one drive, and not once did they ever ask to go back early to the lodge.
One of the highlights was when the guests asked if there were hippos and crocs. Every morning from our chalets, you could hear them going back to the water. In front of the lodge, there is a pool with that must be close to 50 hippos altogether in one pod. We had the hippos on the poolside of the weir and the crocodiles on the other side with their mouths open catching fish. It was the most interesting sighting and a great view in terms of sundowners.
