Nomthandazo Ndweni
Nomthandazo has a particular interest in Systems Development. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology at the University of the Free State, majoring in Computer Science and Management. Nomthandazo is currently completing her internship at Hollard through the Mindworx Digital Pods learnership programme.
Shareen Sibande
Shareen enjoys using analytic insights to help businesses gain a deeper understanding of their stakeholders including customers, suppliers and employees. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Pretoria and graduated from the Mindworx Academy in 2020 where she focused on business analysis, administration and management. Shareen sharpened her skills in data analysis at SNG Grant Thornton and BDO South Africa, and recently joined Absa as a specialist data engineer.
Nangamso Xala
Nangamso has experience working in the financial services and IT industries and is keen to develop her career by combining her knowledge of both disciplines. She holds a Bcom Accounting degree from the University of Johannesburg and completed an internship at Mindworx Academy in 2022. Nangamso currently works as a software developer for RedScreen.

Koketso Poto
Koketso’s passion for understanding complex systems and their underlying dynamics has driven her to pursue a career in business analysis. She has a political science degree from the University of Pretoria with a focus on International Relations. Her keenness to continuously expand her knowledge and skills led her to the Mindworx Digital Pods programme, through which she secured a full-time position as a Junior Business Analyst at Hollard.
Leona Ntlemeza
Leona has a Higher National Diploma in Financial Information Systems from the University of Johannesburg as well as a National Certificate in Business Analysis Support Practice from MICT Seta. She has five years’ experience working as a Universal Banker at Standard Bank focusing on providing intense financial frontline services to customers. Since May 2022, Leona has been working as a Junior Business Analyst at Hollard, a position she secured through the Mindworx Digital Pods.

Ruth enjoys gathering, organising and analysing data as well as coding and contributing to project strategies. She has a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Physics and Mathematics from Walter Sisulu University and completed an internship at the Mindworx Academy during the height of COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020. Ruth currently works as a Software Engineer at Absa Corporate and Investment Banking.

Thulile Mbuthuma
Thulile is an aspiring Software Developer and was drawn to this career path because of her passion for technology and its problem-solving abilities within the business sector. She has a Bcom Accounting degree from the University of Zululand and over the past couple of years has completed a number of courses in coding and software development. Thulile is currently a DevOps Developer at Hollard Insure as part of the Mindworx Digital Pods.

Did You Know? There are several ways that statistics come out to play in data science practices. These practices can be extremely helpful for interpreting data and producing interesting results. Experimental Design: If you have a question and want that question answered then, whether you know it or not, you are most likely going to be conducting some sort of experiment to find the answer. This involves setting up that experiment, dealing with sample sizes, control groups, and more. Frequent Statistics: Using statistical practices such as confidence intervals and hypothesis tests allow you to determine how much a result or data point matters. Being able to calculate significance and other important pieces of information from data will make you a stronger data scientist. Modeling: Techniques such as regression and clustering are used often in data science for modeling work. Whether you’re trying to predict something, find the bigger picture in data, or understand reasoning behind data; chances are you will end up using some sort of predictive modeling. How Important is it? This is where things get a bit fuzzy and opinions begin to vary. In order to more accurately answer this question, break up statistics into two groupings: new and old. Old statistics such as regression and hypothesis tests are simplistic by nature. While they can be useful, many distinguished data scientists predict them being used less and less. Stating that these concepts will likely become less important as we move forward and statistical techniques evolve. On the other hand, new statistics like decision trees and predictive power are very useful and are used often by data scientists. All this being said, we still recommend aspiring data scientists to work through general statistical theories and practices. Even if you won’t be using them in everyday work, they still are very helpful in helping you progress up to more advanced concepts that you will use regularly while training analyt
