Did you know | Giraffe Ossicones
Did you know?
Giraffe ossicones, the distinctive horn like protrusions on their head, serve as one of their most recognizable features. Unlike a true horn or antler, ossicones are comprised of ossified cartilage covered in skin and fur. At birth, the ossicones are not attached to the skull, with the ossification process beginning after birth, this allow for an easy birthing process. Between the age of five and seven the ossicones will fuse to their skull and harden. In adulthood, these ossicones are vital in confrontations and in self-protection, especially in males.

Lions Mating in the Western Serengeti
No love lost on the plains of the western Serengeti, Tanzania.
Did you know that lions general mate for 3 or 4 days with day one seeing the large cats do the deed every 10-20 minutes? Of course, as the days go by and staminia levels decrease, this gap opens up to around every 1 or 2 hours. However, one also has to consider that each bout of mating only lasts around 10 seconds.
