The Siyakhana Permaculture Food Garden is considered a hallmark of agro-ecology in the wider Johannesburg area. It is one of the most prominent sites for an integrated approach for urban food production and has become our flagship project that provides for a range of activities beyond the garden:

1. Improving availability and accessibility of nutritious sustainably produced food by promoting the

local production and distribution of healthy food;
2. Building skills, research and training capacity by conducting research and education;
3. Raising public awareness and stimulating social change through networking and mobilization;
4. Offering consultancy and design services and developing an income-generating social entrepreneurship model;
5. Enabling economic sustainability to individuals and groups by offering training in sustainable livelihood development.
