DIRCO | John C. Maxwell once said, “… everything worthwhile is uphill “. We sure make it look easy, but there’s a lot of work behind the scenes. Unearthing any precious mineral underground requires a skill, a team, patience and persistence, so is it is with unearthing and exploring our continent, Africa. It starts from a vision, then come the plans, followed by careful ex*****on and then a review once accomplished. Thanks to the team of our missions abroad, our diplomats, our servants, the men and women from DIRCO (Department of International Relations and Co-Operation of South Africa) who work with us to ensure a safe exploration experience, this precious mineral called Africa. They bring the local flavour to the table, the understanding of the “unchartered territory” , they are there way before us, they are the professionals in the mix. In this photo is Luanda after 4,000kms from Joburg as we popped the bottle thanks the Hon. Ambassador Monareng (affectionately known as “Tekere”) , our diplomatic team and expatriates in Angola who grand welcomed us - oh you should have been there! It brought tears to our eyes to understand and appreciate the work they do, opening doors, access to trade and relations between our 2 countries. Thank you DIRCO for helping us to love our continent, to love ourselves. Here is a 24 hour hotline from DIRCO to assist travelling South Africans away from home, +27(12) 341 1000, stencil it under your hat, write it down “where the sun don’t shine”, where you will always find it, discover Africa and be back home safe. It’s Cape2Cairo24 SisayaDaar!

Oprah | Doesn’t this look like a heart? Malawi known as the warm heart of Africa is one special place, Mangochi and Monkey Bay on Lake Malawi is like a sacred garden, warm soft sand beneath your feet and so is her warm beautiful people (including the prophets). This map shows the SADC countries (Southern Africa Development Community), and if this doesn’t look like a heart, then my Biology teacher did an ogive to get me to the next grade. In the glorious past 13 months Cape2Cairo24 has covered a significant footprint of this community of countries, over 17,000kms to date, 4 trial runs, thousands of 95 octane litres ( and a litre or two of diesel for Yellobone) together with gazillion tons of happiness everywhere we went, and this is one true story. We have seen deserts yet full of life, spoke in tounges, Bull blood on our foreheads by traditional healers in the Kalahari, prayed for by the cleric in Luanda, swam in both the Indian and the Atlantic Oceans, palated Africa along the way, hugged Immigration Officers, saluted by cops and were messerised by the great wonderful people of Africa, this a story for the ages. So, how then do we share this unmatched discovery? Great things, great stories, great experiences ought to be shared, infact it must be law! This leads us now to this Oprah moment on C2C24 where we ask you a few questions (please dont look under your seat just yet), and who gets most right receives a piece of Team Gear (unworn, brand knew for we arent celebrities where sweat worn counts). This a gift that carries dreams, unity, the team spirit, our achievements, love for man and a quest to venture into the unknown. In many ways, the gift is to love oneself. The top 3 who gets most answers right, in time sequence, will receive the gear.

1. Can you give us the names at least 6 cars of Cape2Cairo24?
2. Can you name at least 3 trial runs we have done?
3. What is the longest trial run we have done?
4. What is the name of the no #1 Immigration Officer in Africa (according to us the experts, Cape2Cairo24)?
5. What is the slogan of Cape2Cairo24?
6. Who is the cry baby of Cape2Cairo24? (Tip: Check tomorrow morning’s post)
7. Share with us a post, a moment, anectode or a picture you enjoyed or loved on Cape2Cairo24 moments.
8. What is the make and model car of choice for C2C24?
9. In September 2024, where is the C2C24 crew going travelling over 12000kms?
10. How tall is the Chief Mechanic?

So please no “i-mbuzi” (aka neposistic tendencies from your insider connections on C2C24). We will know if there is a leak on the matric exam paper, we have eyes everywhere.

We are truly excited to share this experience with you, and it will give us great pleasure to give you a token that is in someway holds “the all we are”, the power of dreams each one of us has waiting to be unleashed into to reality, it’s possible.

No cheating, all the best now! Oh, and thanks Oprah!

BabySteps | This day exactly a year ago was our first trial run, the “Good Ernegi” trial run to give respect to the San people, the founding fathers of Southern Africa. We departed from the Eastern Cape paying homage to the C2C24 first team sailing towards the Kgalagadi, over 2300kms round trip. It was this novice trial run that told the story, the developments story of what would be, the Cape2Cairo24 trip this September, 12000kms, 8 countries, 28 days in a W123, a car engineered like no other on earth. By September 2023, the 2nd trial run in the SADC countries over 5000kms from RSA, Eswatini, Mozambique sailing to Bazaruto, back to Eastern Zimbabwe towards Bulawayo and Vic Falls before returning home, thanks to this inaugural run we now had engaged the skills of a travel mechanic and a chef. Babysteps are important steps, baby steps are critical steps for without them we wont run, we wont win. The 3rd trial run, Angola24 is by far the highlight of our tours and trials as we gear for the big one in a few months times. Once more, it is this inaugural trial run, less celebrated perhaps, not known yet it was the kick off of it all, without it, Angola24 in April this year, 8000kms to Angola (Luanda) pass Botswana and Namibia would certainly not have happened. Baby steps are critical steps. Baby steps involve falling (not failing), bruising, fatigue and a tear drop or two yet babies never stop trying to walk, they never quit, why? Inspired by beautiful infants, inspired by nature what a lesson for our lives this is, never to throw in the towel, no matter the cost because the finish line is assured, its just there going nowhere, waiting for us. Consider the ultra marathon runners, those who cross the finnish line in Pietermarizburg just the other day, and those who didn’t. All trained, all qulified. What we saw is a snippet of their journey. We didnt see their daily 4am training runs, we didnt hear of the torn ligaments, we didnt support them with aid as they traversed the country to get the qulifiers, and we know not their families, the greatest cheerleaders were with them through the thick of it all, their hearts in full support as they understood that baby steps are actually the winning steps. The critical formular for success is “to start”, the babysteps. They are not easy but then again if it were easy we wouldnt be in this in the first place. Something must be so enchanting, so charming, so worth the sweat to “lightly” ignore the challenges, the prize is just too handsome for infants to quit babysteps. There is sugar bowl is within reach, theres a juice to spill, to break, theres a lot of exploring to do, to touch and feel as they enter the world in their own way, discovering it individually and in many way being trained to make the world, our world better - they explore, they stretch themselves for humanity. The prize of winning is worth it all. Just start, the rest will figure itself out. We from Cape2Cairo24 know this all two well, we started, and now we are finalising the last preparation for the finish line. How thankful we are for many people along the way who adopted us as their families, in Upington where things appeared to fail, how can we not thank the Khomani San traditional healers who slaughtered a bull for us in the blood ceremony, bidding us farewell, safe passage into the continent of their forefathers, our forefathers. This inaugural run, the first babystep will remain special in our hearts because it is that captures the soul and heart of Cape2Cairo24. Fear not, start and watch as the Great pyramids, rivers and people of Africa shower you with grace. Baby steps are “THE” steps to it all, It’s Cape2Cairo24 Sisayadaar!

Legendary W123 still tough enough to cross continents

Discoveries | It is not only Satan that came from heaven! When you get to Namibia you wanna visit Meteoriten, an open monument site in downtown Windhoek where Gibeon meteorites (scattered from heavens onto the village of Gibeon in Namibia hence the name) some thousands of years ago. High in nickel and iron are these heavy shapeless lumps of metal rock. It does appear though that the nyaope boys did some homework too - some rocks have disappeared. We did say “Never Rush Africa” .
