This morning ‘YouTube’s Most Watched Flight Reviewer’ posted a video detailing his ‘horrific’ experience flying Airlink to Cape Town. This thing has gone viral - 1,2 million views at the time of posting this.

The chap is traumatised I tell you.

So it prompted me to share my recent experience with Airlink. Mine on the other hand was 5 Star.

After landing at OR Tambo from Heathrow, I connected to Airlink flight 4Z 797 to Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha to locals).

I swear I was the proudest South African on that flight. I think I was also the only South African on it.

So many foreigners, including a massive group of European tourists and to my delight they were all headed to the Eastern Cape.

But most of all… the crew!!!

Bradley, Thando and Simphiwe (spelling🫣) were outstanding. Ever smiling and attentive. And immaculately presented. Airlink better hang onto this team.

Okay, apologies to the YouTuber as I was not flying Business Class, so I did not have reason to complain about that silly curtain being left open… the one that seperates us minions from the blessed.

I therefore also had no need to complain about no inflight entertainment in front of me. Does anybody still offer that on domestic flights?

And I am sorry that 1 empty water bottle down the side of your seat, a condiment sachet and a serviette calls for the statement “rubbish everywhere” - bit dramatic me thinks.

Have you seen the time pressure the cleaning crews have to work under between flights - and have you seen the mess passengers often leave behind? No excuses. Just saying.

Also the Bidvest slow lounge is not Airlink but an agreement between the parties. Having paid $300 for a business class ticket, surely R70 to pay for early access, wouldn’t have left him destitute. Like $4 or something. (The website clearly states access is 90min prior to departure.)

Then he whips out his cellphone and records the chap at the check-in counter. I would also run away, especially with you pointing your finger at me😂

Anyway, I truly am sorry he found this experience so bad. And I am even more sorry for the negative publicity that comes with it. At least he rates the inflight meal as superb.

As we flew into beautiful Port Elizabeth, I think I was glowing with pride. Passengers were jovial, faces pressed against the windows - fortunately they were filming our beautiful city from the air as opposed to recording dodgy reviews.

My original intention was to post this as a positive review about the excellent experience on board the flight and tag Airlink - the staff deserve recognition for a job well done.

Now I am so worried about this chap. His flight was to Cape Town….

Somebody needs to make contact and offer him trauma counselling. For free. Or invite him to a braai or something.

Seriously, I do hope he enjoys the rest of his South African experience. We’re happy, positive people - just trying to do the best we can under the circumstances🤗
