KINGFISHER | Look who dropped by at our lodge today - a magnificent kingfisher! 🐦💙 Did you know that these vibrant birds are expert divers and can plunge into the water at incredible speeds to catch their fishy prey? Here are a few fun facts about these fascinating creatures:

1️⃣ Kingfishers are known for their vibrant colors, with some species displaying stunning shades of blue, green, and orange. They truly are nature's living gems!

2️⃣ These agile hunters have incredible vision. They can spot a fish from above the water's surface, even in low light conditions, thanks to their specialized eyes.

3️⃣ Kingfishers build their nests in tunnels, often excavating burrows in riverbanks or tree trunks. It's like having their very own waterfront property!

4️⃣ They are master anglers, capable of diving headfirst into the water to sn**ch their prey. With their sharp beaks and keen hunting skills, they rarely miss a meal.

The Circles in the Forest, or "Kringe in 'n bos",  trail is situated in the Goldfield State Forest and starts/ends at the Krisjan-se-Nek picnic site where you can braai and lie on the green grass. It is a beautiful easy to moderate walk through the forest. There is a swimming spot in a cool forest pool with small fish species in and also a beautiful pool with a waterfall. There are sections where you walk amongst huge forest ferns and frog-filled streams with small wooden bridges.
