Territory is critical in the wild, and this interesting sighting on a recent in , gave our guests an insight into how male lions demarcate their territories in a practice known as scent-marking.
As you can see from the clip, the lion smells for invader smells and then stamps his own scent onto that, to declare dominion over his territory. It is etsimated that lion territories can be around 20 sq. km (or more in areas where food is scarce). As you can imagine, patrolling, defending and marking these terrains is a monumental undertaking.
Interestingly, lions also have scent g***s between their toes, so walking and sharpening their claws against trees, also spreads their scent. This scent is a message to other animals that the territory belongs to a male lion and will be defended. You can book your exciting with us in , at www.tambarina-eat-stay-safari.com... It's wild!
