Kruger Park lions on a morning walk
We think they are out on a family walk, but what if in reality, they are just on a walking safari in #krugerpark, and the humans in the #sasekesafaris open safari vehicle are the top wild sighting of their day? 🤣. But jokes aside, this experience was such a wonderful way to start a wild day on safari in #krugernationalpark ❤. African Rock Python in Kruger Park
We know snakes aren't everyone's favorite when it comes to wild sightings, but you just have to see how beautiful an African Rock Python is! This is just the taiil end of the sighting, but isn't it amazing? #sasekesafaris in #krugernationalpark are an awesome way to see and learn more about our amazing #african wildlife, so these holidays, why not book an exciting #safari adventure with us for the whole family at www.tambarina-eat-stay-safari.co.za?
Pythons are large, non-venomous constrictors and they form an important part of the wild eco-system in the African Bush. We don't see them every day, which makes this an extra-special sighting. What will we see during YOUR #krugersafari? #marlothpark #Komatipoort
Lion Flehmen in Kruger Park
In this clip from a recent #sasekesafari in #krugernationalpark, you'll see this beautiful male lion doing something known as Flehmen. Often called the Flehmen grimace (for obvious reasons), the process is actually one of processing and identifying moisture-borne chemical messages that other animals have left behind (often in their urine).
This 'investigation' is performed through the use of a special olfactory organ connected to the nose/ mouth of the lion. Much important information is acquired through the process, regarding the gender of animals that have been in the area, which could either alert to the presence of a potential mate or challenger. Lion Scent Marking in Kruger Park
Territory is critical in the wild, and this interesting sighting on a recent #sasekesafari in #krugernationalpark, gave our guests an insight into how male lions demarcate their territories in a practice known as scent-marking.
As you can see from the clip, the lion smells for invader smells and then stamps his own scent onto that, to declare dominion over his territory. It is etsimated that lion territories can be around 20 sq. km (or more in areas where food is scarce). As you can imagine, patrolling, defending and marking these terrains is a monumental undertaking.
Interestingly, lions also have scent glans between their toes, so walking and sharpening their claws against trees, also spreads their scent. This scent is a message to other animals that the territory belongs to a male lion and will be defended. Mating Leopards in Kruger Park
Leopards are solitary and mysterious, which often makes safari sightings of them obscure and even infrequent. Our guests on a recent #sasekesafari in #krugerpark had an incredible experience when they saw mating leopards! Leopards are solitary and will only usually break this pattern when mating, or a mother raising a cub. Male Lions In Kruger Park
These 3 male lions, in their prime, were just walking calmly together one morning during an exciting #sasekesafari. It was a wonderful sighting for our guests and also a special insight into the bonds that exist between 'coalition brothers'. In the wild, male lions will often form coalitions to help solidify their safety and dominance over a territory. A good coalition can even enable male lions to take over rival territories. If this happens, the males will usually kill all young cubs in the pride to wipe out the bloodline of the previous male leader, and to trigger oestrus in the females, so that they can mate and establish their own bloodlines.
Coalition brothers literally trust each other with their lives and aside from the loyalty they enjoy, they are aslo very affectionate towards one another. It's beautiful to watch. Male Lion in Kruger Park
Lions are, for many of our guests, the epitome of Africa. This magnificent male was calm and relaxed as we enjoyed his company one morning in #krugerpark, during a #sasekesafari. The fact that he had lost the end of his tail in one of his wild adventures was a stark reminder that survival is no laughing matter in the African bush. Hyena Tearing an Impala Carcass in Kruger Park
In this #sasekesafari clip recorded in #krugernationalpark, a hynea had stolen an impala carcass from 3 cheetahs. It's not something we think about all that often, but can you imagine the strength it takes for wild animals to tear carcassas into pieces they can eat? We assume the hardest work is the actual kill (or theft:-), but the actual eating process requires a lot of strength and energy too. Amazing what you learn on an #africansafari! Wild Dogs VS Warthog in Kruger Park
One morning on a #sasekesafari in #krugerpark, our guests were treated to a very exciting interaction between wild dogs and a warthog. The warthog found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and as you can see from the clip, wild dogs have perfected the art of doing everything together. In fact, they are one of the most beautiful pictures of community.
In this instance, the chase was a bit half-hearted and towards the end of the clip, you can see the wild dogs being a bit playful. This particular story had a happy ending for the warthog, which likely meant these dogs weren't that hungry. Wild dogs are very proficient hunters and their strategy of working together is a highly successful one:-) You can book your exciting safari adventures with us at www.tambarina-eat-stay-safari.co.za #marlothpark #komatipoort
