Plan a gin tasting weekend when staying at Kosmos Heights🍹Here are some recommendations:

1. Almost Orange is on an orange orchard, the family farm of chef Leon Nel. It is easy to imagine yourself somewhere in Europe or just ‘elsewhere’ whilst eating surrounded by these gorgeous groves. Platters designed to share among one another to enjoy a light meal. With a wide selection of gins, premium liquor, craft beer and hand selected wines to be show cased.

2. Incendo Distillery is an award winning Hartbeespoort based craft distillery. Visit their tasting room for a Gin and Chocolate pairing, rum tasting and distillery tours. Don't forget a great cocktail whilst you enjoy the view over the Magalies mountains.

3. Cradle Gin Garden is the official tasting room of Flowstone Gin, South Africa’s first gin range ever to hold three double gold Michelangelo awards in the same year, also made in the Cradle of Humankind.

Vergenoeg is a popular place to hike and being just 10km away from Kosmos Heights it is definitely a must when you are visiting.

Vergenoeg farm is situated on the slopes of the Magaliesberg overlooking the Skeerpoort valley and the Hartbeespoortdam.

Due to it's diverse surroundings and spectacular views, Vergenoeg has always been a popular hiking destination amongst advanced hikers. The walk along the ridge at the the top offers a vulture's view of the whole valley below. Their well marked trails will take you on an adventure although a certain level of fitness will be required to complete the full route, as a reward you will be provided with a privileged view of the endangered Cape Vulture's as they launch themselves from the cliffs into the thermals.

Over 200 bird species and more than 50 indigenous trees have been identified on the Vergenoeg Trails.

Bonus is that their hiking trails are a pet friendly route🐶

• Van Gaalen Cheese Farm is a MUST •

Van Gaalen is a family-run farm based in the agricultural village of Skeerpoort that has been producing Gouda cheese the traditional way since their inception in 1994. For the past 27 years they have strived to make the most of everything the great outdoors has to offer and they are passionate about sharing the beauty of their area with you accompanied with some "good old" country hospitality.

They host a bunch of activities for both young and old that take place throughout the year. Check out their events calendar on their page and website. Go visit them with your family for a relaxing day out in Hartbeespoort.

When staying at Kosmos Heights you get to experience some of the local gems in Hartbeespoort, like:

Jasmyn Windmill

It is very unlikely that you will visit Hartbeespoort without hearing about or seeing Die Windmeul, or Jasmyn farm stall (plaaswinkel). Situated on the R511 just outside Hartbeespoort, the Dutch-style windmill and thacth-roofed farm stall building are hard to miss. Here you can support local farmers by buying fresh produce and enjoy breakfast/lunch at one of the wonderful and cosy 3 restaurants.

Opened in 2004, Jasmyn Plaaswinkel draws its inspiration from the humble honeybee. The whole design of Jasmyn Hartbeespoort reflects this. Built in the shape of a honeycomb, and with an open plan interior, Jasmyn is easy to navigate and invites one to get lost in the freedom and lavishness of the displays.

An impressive selection of organic goods and farm fresh produce, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses from Jasmyn's own cheese factory, fresh bread, various dairy products, delectable meat and biltong, baked goods, juices and imported treats, awaits the visitor. Quite a few unusual products can also be found here, including hard to find fruits and vegetables, and interesting home-made cheeses.

Scattered between the products are flowers, curios and gifts for sale, as well as coffee and sweet treats to tempt your taste buds. Organic cleaning products and biodegradable groceries complete the picture.

But, Jasmyn is not only the place to purchase superior eats and treats. A beautiful bookstore is situated on the 2nd level of the hexagonal building, and sells new and used books at very competitive prices, as well as CD's, gifts and other literary-treats.
