The 𝙋𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝙉𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙪𝙨, or 𝘼𝙧𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙪𝙩, is a fascinating deep-sea creature found along the Agulhas coast! Unlike true nautiluses, these delicate cephalopods don’t have a hard shell—instead, females create a paper-thin egg case that helps them float.

🔹 They are relatives of octopuses and can even change colour like them!
🔹 The fragile shell they make is often washed up on beaches, a rare and beautiful find.
🔹 Males are tiny compared to females—sometimes only 1% of their size!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐨’ 𝐖𝐚𝐫, or as we call it in Agulhas, the 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞, is not actually a jellyfish! 😲 It’s a colony of organisms working together as one.

🔹 That long, blue te****le you see? It can stretch up to 30 meters and delivers a painful sting—so avoid stepping on them!
🔹 Bluebottles can’t swim – they rely on ocean currents and the wind to drift across the sea.
🔹 Even washed-up Bluebottles can still sting, so be careful when walking along the beach.
🔹 Some fish, like the blue dragon sea slug, actually feed on them and absorb their stinging cells for self-defence!

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗮𝗶?
The origin of the name "Spookdraai" comes from local legends and tales of eerie occurrences along this part of the coastal road. According to folklore, the area earned its name due to ghostly sightings and unexplained phenomena experienced by fishermen, travelers, and residents.
