We had a slightly cloudy day at the park yesterday (5 Sept 2024) – once more, it was a special experience!

We got to see zebras up close, as well as a mother and baby steenbok, and something about a bird and a spider. But I'll save that one for another post.

The flowers were even more beautiful than last week. We discovered a couple of new blooms that we hadn't seen before or perhaps had missed.

Happy Spring! What a beautiful day in Langebaan! ☀️

We had another special sighting on Friday that was quite exciting. Unfortunately, the animals were far away. It's a pity you can't take pictures with binoculars! At least you can see what they are (you might need to zoom in 😅) - Bat-eared foxes!

Today was such a special day in the park!! (30 Aug 2024)

The weather was just perfect! We saw some new varieties of flowers.

We made unique connections with random people and even ran into a close friend from Cape Town, making the day even more memorable. Our cup has truly runneth over today!

Don't want to enter the West Coast National Park to see flowers?

You don't have to!

Park Drive, on your way to the park (on the Langebaan side) takes you right past the Daisy Walk. There are beautiful displays of flowers along the path!

The whole of Park Drive also has lots of flowers on either side of the road all the way up to the West Coast National Park gate.

23 Aug 2024 - Today, Park Day was a bit windy, but the flowers didn't mind. The white and orange flowers are popping out everywhere.
At the lookout points, you can see other varieties of flowers when you go and take a stroll there.

Forget the filter, the Magriet is all-natural brilliance personified.
This fiery orange daisy, with a dark centre that seems to hold a universe of secrets, explodes with colour against the West Coast landscape.
Postberg, a designated flower viewing area, becomes a photographer's playground, with every frame capturing the essence of a West Coast spring.

But the Magriet's magic goes beyond its stunning good looks. It's a silent call to a squadron of tiny superheroes – ladybugs! These industrious insects see the Magriet as a buffet, feasting on the aphids that sometimes threaten the flower's health. It's a win-win situation for everyone involved (except maybe the aphids, but hey, nature has its balance).

So next time you see a Magriet, don't just admire its fiery beauty. Think of it as a symbol of nature's resilience and the intricate partnerships that keep ecosystems thriving. It's a vibrant reminder that even the smallest creatures can play a vital role in the grand scheme of things.
