Waterberg Security Initiative

Waterberg Security Initiative Welcome to WSI! We're a community project dedicated to enhancing safety and security in Dorset, Melkrivier, and Palala farming areas of Limpopo, SA.

Join us in safeguarding our communities and wildlife.
πŸŒΏπŸ”’ Waterberg Security Initiative (WSI) is a registered Non-Profit Company (NPC) and Public Benefit Organization (PBO) established in July 2017 by Save The Waterberg Rhino (STWR). Our mission began with the ambitious goal of engaging the entire community in a collaborative security initiative. Led by a committe

e elected by local residents, WSI has evolved into a robust organization with a functional committee comprising eight dedicated members. The overwhelming support and involvement of businesses, tourism establishments, landowners, and community members underscore the critical need for enhanced safety and security measures in the increasingly vulnerable farming communities of South Africa. Our organization operates as a self-sustained community project, with board and committee members generously offering their expertise and time on a pro bono basis, all elected by and representing the community. The Aims and Purposes of WSI include:

Promoting environmental protection and responsible land use planning in the Melkrivier/Dorset/Palala/Geelhoutkop/Vrymansrust area. Facilitating fire protection initiatives in collaboration with the Modimolle Fire Protection Agency. Advocating for the maintenance and improvement of existing infrastructure, including roads. Supporting eco-tourism and the preservation of local fauna and flora. Ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of WSI members and the broader community. Promoting social stability and acting as a mediator on communal and social concerns. Serving as a liaison for members in obtaining services from preferred subcontractors and service providers. It is important to note that WSI operates without a profit-making intent, utilizing all income, including membership fees, toward achieving its aims and purposes. WSI serves as a vital communication and reporting avenue for the communities it serves. By offering anonymous reporting services and actively investigating received information, we proactively address potential criminal activities before they escalate. Funding for WSI is sourced from pledges and contributions from local landowners and businesses, supplemented by support from fundraising events and organizations. This financial support is crucial in sustaining our operations and delivering essential services to the region's communities and wildlife. In conclusion, the services provided and managed by WSI extend far beyond traditional security measures, benefiting and safeguarding the region, its communities, and its wildlife on a significant scale.
