Situated in a little nook of the Limpopo river, in the Northern parts of Limpopo province, you get a true feel of the bushveld at Tweerivier. Where mixed bushveld gives way to sour bushveld and you can even find a bit of montane grassland, and Lowveld riverine forest nestled against the banks of the Limpopo river - making it possible to experience various types of vegetation and habitats, as well

as their varying ecosystems.. The richness and diversity in plant- and bird-life habitat makes this an ideal retreat for all bird-watchers. The small wetlands dotted through the farm also contribute to the multitude of bird species. We also have a variety of antelope that incude Oryx, Sable, Bushbuck, Duiker, Impala, Gemsbuck, Eland, Kudu, Giraffe, Rietbok, Nyala, Springbuck, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeest, and Zebra. Other wildlife sightings include Crocodile, Hippopotamus, Baboons, Bush Babies, Vervet Monkeys, Otters, Bush Pigs, Caracals, Civets, Porcupines, Honey Badgers, Pangolins, Brown Hyenas, Black-backed Jackals, Warthogs as well as Cheetah and Leopard. Limpopo river update: The water level is down by about 1.5meters! It looks like we were lucky. Weโ€™ll see what happens in February when lots of rain and flooding is predicted. Some rainy seasons see as many as 4 floods ranging from staying within its banks to pushing about 50 - 100 meters onto the flood plains.

Limpopo river update. Today the river has risen by about 20cm at our marker. On the first photo you can see that the water has not covered the deck and is lying just under the deck. The area in front of the Tree House is basically part of the river as can be seen on the third photo. The river house deck looks down on water as can be seen on the fourth photo. We took the family and stayed at one of their bush camps and in specific stayed in the Tree house built around a 500 year old Leadwood tree on the Limpopo river edge was amazing. We have a good news story to end this week with. A Lappet-Faced Vulture was brought to us by a concerned neighbour. They had picked it up in the veld and it was so weak that it allowed them to handle it. Our resident vet, Dr Ampie, diagnosed lead poisoning. Vultures scavenging on carcasses containing lead fragments (like discarded intestines of hunted animals) causes these animals to ingest lead. Lead is a toxic heavy metal that can cause damage to organs and the nervous system. After treating it and feeding it for a couple of days this majestic animal was strong enough to fly away. What a humbling experience it was working with this majestic animal.

How cute is this young chameleon!? Afrikaans name is Trapsuutjies (literal translation is something walking quietly and slowly) or verkleurmannetjie (literal translation is something that changes colour to blend into its environment). This is the smallest one weโ€™ve ever seen! Rare sighting!

We have a good news story to end this week with. A Lappet-Faced Vulture was brought to us by a concerned neighbour. They had picked it up in the veld and it was so weak that it allowed them to handle it. Our resident vet, Dr Ampie, diagnosed lead poisoning. Vultures scavenging on carcasses containing lead fragments (like discarded intestines of hunted animals) causes these animals to ingest lead. Lead is a toxic heavy metal that can cause damage to organs and the nervous system. After treating it and feeding it for a couple of days this majestic animal was strong enough to fly away. What a humbling experience it was working with this majestic animal.
