These powerful creatures remind us just how alive the bush is, even at night. It’s wild. It’s real. And it’s all right here, waiting for you.

Monday Mornings, the Kruger Nights Way 🕊️

While the rest of the world rushes into the week, here at Kruger Nights, Monday begins with stillness, birdsong in the air, warm coffee in hand, and the soft rustle of trees as the bush wakes up.

No deadlines. No noise. Just nature and peace.

🦎 WATER MONITOR LIZARD – The Bushveld’s Mini Dragon!

📍 Often spotted slinking near rivers, dams, or even on garden walls in Marloth Park, this prehistoric-looking reptile is one of Africa’s coolest (and sneakiest!) residents.

Here are some wild facts about the Water Monitor you might not know: 👇

🐉 It’s huge!
These lizards can grow over 2 meters long, making them one of the largest lizard species in Africa. With their powerful tails and claws, they move like ancient reptiles — because they practically are!

🌊 They love the water
As their name suggests, Water Monitors are strong swimmers and often hang out near rivers and pans. They can hold their breath and stay underwater for up to 30 minutes! 🏊‍♂️💦

😮 Built for survival
Their forked tongue works like a snake’s, helping them "taste" the air and track prey. They’re not venomous, but their bite can carry bacteria — and they’ve got attitude when threatened!

👀 Where to spot them in Marloth Park:
Look near waterholes, dry riverbeds, or basking in the sun on rocks and logs. Sometimes, they even wander through gardens — totally calm unless provoked. 😎

🦎 Respect the reptile!
The Water Monitor is a vital part of the ecosystem and plays a big role in controlling pests and scavenging. If you see one — admire it from a distance and let it be wild. 💚

🏆Guest review: “Stunning house! We had a lovely stay unfortunately it was too short. Mondray was always there and did a great job making us feel at home. Lots of different spots to hang out, the kids really enjoyed sitting by the reading nook with a book. Highly recommend this place if you want to be close to nature. We will be back Mondray!”- Sandra (RSA) 👏

Where the Wild is Right Next Door 🦓🦁

You might not see the Kruger fence from your porch — but you’ll feel just how close it is. With Kruger National Park only a stone’s throw away, the sounds of the bush come alive: the distant roar of lions, the rumble of elephants, the night chorus of hyenas.

At Kruger Nights, nature is always near — and sometimes, it wanders right into your view. ✨

🦅 BATELEUR – The Acrobat of the Skies

📍 Spotted soaring over Marloth Park and surrounding bushveld, the Bateleur eagle is one of Africa’s most striking raptors – and it's full of surprises!

Here are some wild facts about this iconic bird: 👇

🎨 Fashion Statement
Mature Bateleurs boast bold black, white, and chestnut plumage with bright red faces and legs — you can’t miss them! Juveniles, though, are brown for the first 7 years of life. 🧒➡️🧑

⏳ Patience Pays
Bateleurs can fly over 300 km a day, scanning the bush from above for carrion, small mammals, reptiles, and birds. Their sharp eyesight means they often find food before other scavengers even notice. 👀🍴

💏 Monogamous & Loyal
Bateleurs mate for life and use the same nest for years, usually hidden high in a tree. They’re the true lovebirds of the raptor world. 💞

🎯 Where to spot them in Marloth Park:
Look up during the heat of the day — they love soaring high above the treetops, often in wide, lazy circles. That short tail and tilting flight are dead giveaways! 🌀

🦅 Next time you're in Marloth Park, don't forget to look up! The sky is full of secrets — and the Bateleur is one of the best-kept.
