An incredible sighting at Sunset Dam today with Southern Kruger Safaris! We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a Dideric Cuckoo breeding pair—such a stunning contrast between the male’s vibrant green and the female’s more muted tones. Nature at its finest! 🦜✨

🌿 The Story of Wild and Free Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre 🌿

Wild and Free Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre was founded with a single mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife back into their natural habitats. Since its inception, we have dedicated ourselves to the care and recovery of animals, giving them a second chance at life in the wild.

Our team works around the clock to ensure each patient receives the best possible treatment, free from unnecessary stress and human interaction. By minimizing human contact, we help these animals retain their natural instincts, which is crucial for their survival once released.

🔒 Why We Don’t Allow Public Visits 🔒

We often receive requests from the public to visit the center, and while we truly appreciate the support, it’s important to understand that the animals in our care are on a delicate journey back to freedom. To ensure their successful return to the wild, they need to stay as wild as possible, which means very limited human interaction.

Our center is a sanctuary for animals to heal and prepare for life in the wild, and keeping them undisturbed by people is vital for their well-being.

Although we can’t offer visits, there are plenty of ways you can get involved in supporting our work:

• Donate to help cover the costs of food, medical care, and rehabilitation.
• Share our posts to raise awareness about wildlife conservation.

ENJOY BEAUTIFUL, BIODIVERSE MARLOTH THIS WEEKEND

This is the cry-baby of the bush: the thick-tailed bushbaby, 𝘖𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴 (Bosnagaap). It is much bigger and fluffier than the lesser bushbaby and only this one makes the distinctive ‘human’ crying sound. Note how it can fold up its big ears, so they are not injured when it leaps through the trees. It lives in family groups, nesting in dense foliage. Sadly, habitat loss means this endearing little mammal is on the CITES list*.
