This is pretty darn exciting!

Eagle Eye Safaris’ photography guide Kayce Blackwood just shared that her photo of a diving Chinstrap Penguin not only won Audubon last year, it’s going to be published in Bird Photographer of the Year: Collection 9, coming out this fall after the winners are announced.

Will she be a winner in the contest, too? We have to wait a while to find out.

Published by Princeton University Press, the 2024 Bird Photographer of the Year competition features a wealth of incredible images, attracting the world’s best bird photography, now celebrated in this stunning 256 page book. Featuring over 250 of the best images, the coffee-table sized book is a lavish production that pays homage to the exceptionally high standard of entries. The book is an important element to the competition as it helps celebrate and promote the works of the contributing photographers.

Hi everyone, it's Kayce, Eagle Eye Safaris' photography guide. What a way to start the week! I'm honored that Africa Geographic is using one of my photos in their fascinating story about Africa's Parrots!

Read it here:

Africa's parrots are colourful characters that live in complex social groups. But they are among the most threatened of all bird families

Everyone needs a little and .

I was so privileged to watch this Red-Knobbed Coot in South Africa tend to a newly hatched chick whilst its sibling pecked away from inside the shell next to it.

These amazing little leave the nest within a few hours of being hatched to join their parents on the water, where they are fed and guarded until they fledge.

is , isn't it? This tender moment was a Judge's Choice award in the PACE contest and was displayed in a gallery showing.

Thanks for Following me!

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who has nurtured another being.

Eagle Eye Safaris photography guide, Kayce, was out chasing the Aurora Borealis last night. This is just her iPhone photo. We can’t wait to see the R5 shots!

It’s almost 4am and I’m home from shooting the Borealis out in the middle of farm fields in Colorado. Here’s a taste—this was taken with my iPhone. I’ll start editing photos from my after I get some sleep. I hope you got to see the incredible art show tonight, too!

Watching predation is hard and fascinating at the same time. Who would have thought that a terrapin would make a good meal for a crocodile? Crocs have the strongest bite force of any animal. This one punched through the terrapin's shell, then tossed it in the air to reposition it. Eventually the croc took the terrapin underwater, where it likely didn't survive the encounter.

Do you know the difference between a terrapin, tortoise, and turtle? It's an interesting tidbit of knowledge that might make you the life of the party, or help you win on Jeopardy someday. 😊
