Die Plaaskombuis in Barberton is filled to the brim with interesting mining history artifacts.

As you enter this coffee shop museum you are greeted by an array of motorcycles from different eras.

The smell of freshly ground beans and old books lures you in to take a seat and admire the view, be it from the mountains surrounding Barberton, or the old pieces of history with good stories to them.

The tidal sandstones of the Makhonjwa mountain range tell the story of ancient beaches, tides and some of the earliest life.

White tidal sands like these also tells us that the moon was much closer to earth when this was formed, the tidal pull was stronger and the water rushing around the earth, with no land mass to slow it down, made for huge tidal water surges.

Visit the Tidal Sandstones along the Barberton road and learn about the spooky story of Sister Brown, the ghost of the provincial hospital and the hanging tree at the Bougainviilea Hotel.... 👻

Hoedspruit … a small town with an incredibly interesting history.

Dawid Johannes Joubert was the first official landowner of the farm Hoedspruit.

He arrived in the Lowveld in 1844 and settled in the area between the Blyde River and the Zandspruit River.

On 5 May 1848 Dawid Joubert registered the farm at the land office which was situated in Ohrigstad, making it the year that Hoedspruit received official recognition as a town and municipality.
