We call them “game drives”, but any safari into the wild African bushveld is just magic. Experience the sunrise and having sundowners in the evening with a drive back to camp using a spotlight to search for eyes in the darkness, anticipating what you might see lurking behind the bushes, this is Africa
Still waters on golden pond
The early bird catches the worm they say, well I was just too late in pressing the button, hoping to catch this Hornbill on it’s perch on the tree in front of the rising sun
Father’s day was celebrated today, how many Dads took their family down to the local for a drink?
Taking a stroll around an old Cape country house and gardens
Exploring the Cape Peninsula in a really fun way. Through designing private travel experiences I unleash hidden gems
The ever changing Cape mountain landscape from sunrise to the rising moon and an idea of the effects after the fires that swept across the country
Cuteness awaits! On an early morning game drive while the light was still getting lighter, we found this little lion family. Aren’t these cubs just so gorgeous that you want to cuddle them? What baby animal is on your bucket list?
Early morning game drive, who’s keen?
Glamping in Big5 territory
The excitement of a night drive is when using a spot light to spot the spotty
Night drives in the bush most often produce sightings of interesting other creatures. Guests are amazed at how we spot Chameleons like this, hiding in the bushes, but it takes trained bush eyes to see the difference in shape between the leaves. Then we found this lovely large, highly venomous, Boomslang curled up overhead
River runs through
We have enjoyed lots of late rains this season and now we start to prepare for our dry winter, but the bush has been filled with running streams and surface water
Burchell’s Glossy Starling are often overlooked as a common bird hopping on the ground, picking up scraps under picnic tables. A quick glance and they appear to be a drab dark bird, but when the light is right they are really colourful
A dead female Boomslang could have been caused by a road kill, which this Tawny Eagle took advantage of
When your guests ask you to hop off and take a photo, but the dam is full and you aren’t sure where the crocs are …
Walking off the beaten track provides the opportunity to discover the smaller things out in the wild like these plants and bugs
Time for a walk in the park, joining a group on a bush walk included a clamber up the rocks to a spectacular hilltop view
Don’t you love this sleepy look and pink eyelids of this Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl, the largest of our 12 owl species in South Africa
Lift off, we have a lift off … Hyena leads the race, Wild Dogs have scattered with the Lions in formation giving chase from behind. What an amazing sighting and the whole game drive took place on only the short distance of the access road to the safari lodge. What a brilliant way to end with a bush coffee stop after all the action. it’s more than just a game drive
As predicted, these Wild Dogs turned onto the private access road and unknowingly headed straight towards the Lions, now hidden in the grass, Hyena still in tow. As they approached the area where the Lions were, they stopped in a line, smelling the danger that lurks ….. wait for the reel coming up soon to see what happened
We spent hours with these lions as they played rough and tumble, look out for my reels to follow

Ranger always has a tail to tell as he shares his passion and knowledge on safari in this pristine bush college on their private concession. It’s more than just a game drive
Animals far and near…. I love the challenge of “finding Wallie” the Klipspringer on the rock, but when he’s out in the open it’s easy to spot. Then the chilled Ellies simply walk up to the vehicle
Birds on a stick
Time on safari is more than just about the game drive looking for the Big 5, I stop for anything to share my excitement and passion for all of creation with my guests. Oh and this is a beautiful Southern Red Bishop, posing proudly near his oval grass woven nest in the reeds. He is also alert should a Diderick Cuckoo try to parasitise the nest by laying an egg for Mrs Bishop to waste her time raising a cuckoo chick at the cost of her own brood
Ever had that boxed in feeling? We were tracking this leopard and pulled over to allow her space to walk past, instead she came straight for our vehicle and rested in the shade underneath. All we could see was the top of her tail sticking out and had to wait for her to move on. No, I didn’t get out to take this photo, we called in another vehicle to the location and they enjoyed the sighting!

Who enjoys the game of “Snakes and Ladders”? Turn up the volume and enjoy sitting amid an “Orchestra of Silence”. The bats were plentiful, doing their best to catch all the bugs in the air, while you can hear the Double banded Sandgrouse twittering away while they come to drink at the waters edge. In the background we heard a Leopard roaring in the typical sawing/ chuffing sound they make when patrolling territory #music #orchestra #wildlifeonearth #wildlife #wildlifephotography #wildlifeplanet #nature #naturelovers #natgeotravel #natgeo #birdlife_sa #birdingsouthafrica #birds #nguniafrica

My previous posts have been leading up to this grand finale where we left the Lions hiding in the long grass next to the road and followed the Wild Dog pack back to exactly this spot, Hyena still in tow hoping to pick up a scrap should the dogs catch something. See how the dogs suddenly stop as they smell the danger lurking in the grass somewhere then as they turn their backs the Lions explode from their cover to give chase. Fortunately amid much barking and dust flying, all ran free and there were no injuries #lion #wilddog #hyena #painteddog #endangeredspecies #endangeredwildlifetrust #ewt #natgeowild #natgeowildlife #wildlifephotography #wildlife #wildanimals #wild #naturephotography #nature #animallovers #animals #safari #wildlifesafari #nguniafrica @lazarusmkhonto @jocksafari #kruger #krugerpark #krugernationalpark #southafrica #privatetravel
The story is unfolding …. having spent over an hour enjoying the lions (in my previous reels) practising their hunting skills on each other, we moved on and found these Wild Dogs running down the road, followed by a lonely Hyena, hoping for an opportunity or a scrap if the dogs made a kill #wilddog #painteddog #endangeredspecies #wild #wildlife_shots #wildlife #wildanimals #wildlifeonearth #natgeowild #natgeo #travel #safari #nguniafrica #gamedrives #kruger

This is the start of an amazing sighting coming up in my posts, so keep following as we spend time with these lions. The two sub-adults have had their early morning cuddle (see my previous post) and are looking for something to do. Sitting in silence on safari, listening to the bugs and birds, it’s like an “Orchestra of Silence”, until the trumpet calls #elephants #trumpet #orchestra #soundsofsilence #bush #safari #gamedrives #nguniafrica #kruger #krugerlowveld #southafrica
Understanding animal behaviour is an essential element in your bush skills, allowing close up and friendly sightings of big and dangerous game. This Elephant was so chilled and more interested in “uploading” grass to get in around 300kg of their staple diet required per day. They only utilise about a third of what they eat, hence the huge, partially undigested droppings #elephants #ellie #animalbehavior #wildlife #wildlifeonearth #guidedsafari #safari #nguniafrica #kruger
In the jungle, when the Lion roars tonight … and there are many posts of this scene, but when you are out in the open at night and close up like this, the Lion’s roar rattles everything, even the goosebumps on your skin! Look at the energy that goes into each roar, seemingly the flick of the tail might help to get this heard from kilometres away as he calls to connect with other males in his coalition #lion #lionroar #lionking #predator #big5 #roar #wilderness #wildlife #wild #nature #safari #nguniafrica #kruger
