With infra structure beeing stolen and covid 19 a lot of new challenges await private rail operators having to back to the drawing board to make the compony still operational.

Even interest shown from outside south africa are on hold but nothing is forever from the 5 directors of Big five thanks for your support.

2021 has not started well for big five transnet has changed the consession process which might be better for us longterm since we had people in old system blocking big five rail but we have a project that hopefully by end of march we can give you news.

When planning such a big project we forget how long and frustrating it can be to get all role players together.This his slowing us down because you battle to secure dates for meetings where all role players can attend.But we are progressing and thats all that matters.

Big 5 Rail

The Idea is to create a safe, friendly and exciting experience for individuals and families, giving those who never had the chance to be part of the steam Engine era the fulfillment to do that in near future. With this project we hope and believe it will increase tourism to the Lowveld, whilst the local people can also enjoy the sight and sound of the old steamer passing by.

The inspiration behind the whole project comes from a group of people who never lost their love for old steamers and are not willing to let these magnificent trains fade out yet. Through this passion, Big 5 Rail was established in 2016 and has been a work in progress ever since.

They have come together sharing hopes, dreams ideas and endeavoring to turn it into reality for them and every other person who shares the passion. Thus far they may able to get a potential Engine called Lyndie-Lou from Sandstone Heritage Trust along with some potential rail carriages.

There is still a very long road ahead. Railway lines & logistics need to be restored & much more, but it is all possible, if we drive & promote this project properly.
