Ons Huisie Mc Gregor

Ons Huisie Mc Gregor Self-catering renovated traditional cottage, sleeps 2-4. Enlosed indigenous garden, carport. The birds are happy with the choice! Badge Hill watches over it.

We are proud to be the custodians of this little piece of McGregor, and endeavour to preserve the McGregor feeling. The house is decorated with local arts and crafts; the garden blooms with mostly local plants – although one cannot always resist a bougainvillea or lavender. We hope that Ons Huisie will feel like your home in McGregor when you stay here. Ons Huisie is an original white-washed cob h

ouse with thatched roof. It is situated on a quiet side of the village, yet close to shops. It is guarded by the trunk of an enormous gum tree, whose roots once reached through our floor and beyond; now a memorial to itself. We have just the right amount of neighbours and a clear view of the mountains across the fields from our front door. The coming home feeling starts when you drive into your own carport. A level path takes you to the large latte covered porch and braai area. Relax in the large secluded garden which is fenced making it safe for small children and pets to run and play. There are nooks to relax and read and there is also has an open area to play. There are 2 lightweight folding garden loungers to seek out the best spots to chill. The large porch has space to wash down mountain bikes. Enter through the kitchen stable-door into the modernized pine kitchen with electric 4-plate hob, Combi Grill-Oven-Microwave; kettle and toaster, basic cooking utensils and crockery and cutlery. The under counter fridge has a small ice compartment. The kitchen has a cosy dining area and leads into the lounge. When it’s chilly, snuggle up to the cob fireplace which heats up and radiates warmth. The renovations were done with accessibility in mind, so though it doesn’t meet all requirements, the space gives an easy flow of movement. Off the hall area is a bathroom with full sized bath with wall mounted shower; wc and washbasin. The romantic main bedroom has a queen-size bed, a built in wardrobe and a shower and basin en-suite; and an oil heater in winter. The kitchen and bathroom have traditional reed ceilings. Upstairs is the ‘Out of Africa’ mezzanine, with 2 single beds, a chest of drawers and hanging space, with a view of Badge Mountain

The Boesmanskloof hiking trail winds through the Riviersonderend Mountains, passing through the beautiful Riviersonderend Conservation Area. Stop for a well-deserved rest at Oakes Falls – a breathtaking series of cool waterfalls and pools.

The trail is approximately 14km, estimated time: 6-7 hours. The trail can be hiked in one day, starting from either McGregor or Greyton. Hikers should note that on the Greyton side, the trail starts just outside Greyton and that the first 6 km is on a jeep track up to the viewpoint. On the McGregor side, the trail starts approximately 14 km to the south of McGregor at Die Galg, and transport should be organized accordingly.

For hiking permits, please contact the CapeNature call centre at +27 (0)87 087 8250 or email them at [email protected]. You can also obtain a permit from Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve Office, Monday - Friday 8h00 - 16h00
Over weekends you can call the emergency number 082 532 6256

‼️Please note the trail is currently closed due to the extensive rainfall end of last year. Maintenance is underway and we’ll inform you when it’s open again.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ‼️
It is with sadness that the decision has been made to postpone the Art Walk, planned for next weekend. Poor access, more rain, and road closure have meant it’s inadvisable to go ahead.

We have found another weekend. The 1st - 3rd December is available and has been provisionally booked.

Artists, please confirm on the WhatsApp app Art Walk group, whether you will still be available

Warm wishes

Good Day McGregor

We have a great opportunity to win a million Rand in cash, another million for marketing as well as a free festival and concert plus TV airtime. Even if we only make it to the semi-finals, the exposure will be fantastic. We stand a very good chance to win this year as popular towns like Montagu and Greyton are not allowed to take part according to the rules.

We ask everyone that lives, visits, loves and works in McGregor to send a SMS at R1.50, the cost of 4 Wilson Toffee’s. Furthermore, we would love all businesses, guest accommodation, masseuse, NGO, restaurants, function venue’s, farmers, galleries, manufacturers, art groups, bridge clubs etc. to pledge a small cash amount for the purchase of airtime to be able to better our chances of winning. We would like to do our best to win this.

Winning this competition will be beneficial to everyone that lives here with long lasting effects. Please take some time by clicking on the link below for more information or contact McGregor Tourism at 023 6251954.
Entries close at 12.00 on Friday the 17th of March.

Access Week 2022

South Africans celebrate both Tourism Month and Heritage Month in September and there is no
better way than immersing yourself in nature by visiting our reserves with your family and friends
during Access Week 2022. From 20 - 27 September 2022, CapeNature will open its doors for an
entire week to everyone, free of charge. The global tourism sector plays a large role in reaching global
sustainable development goals by adding social, cultural, political, and economic value. Tourism Month
is dedicated to highlighting this value and encouraging people to explore the magical miscellany the
world we inhabit has to offer.

By visiting a CapeNature reserve, not only are you adding value to the importance of tourism, but you
get the chance to explore the rich cultural and natural history that lies in the Western Cape’s
magnificent landscapes.
