Yaoundé’s 15-metre-high structure consists of two semicircle arcs, one above the other. On both sides of either of them, are the words ‘I love my country Cameroon’ and ‘J’aime mon pays le Cameroun’. Their intersection rests on a ball, symbol of Cameroon’s renowned sports prowess. Resting on the intersection is a carved out Cameroon map, supported by two hands. The area around the structure has eight water pools with fountains, animated by bright colored lights. 🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲

Yaounde is surrounded by hills, hence it is known as “the city of seven hills”. The name “Yaoundé” derives its name from one of the four ethnic groups Ewondo - A name which the Germans (1st colonisers) transcribed incorrectly and it later changed its spelling by the French (2nd colonisers). The city is also known as “Ongola” which in Ewondo Bantu language means “fence” or “enclosure” a reference to military enclosure by Germans on the 19th century. 🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲
