Elephants enjoying some leaves of a Marule tree.

A marula tree is a particular favorite amongst many animals, but especially the African Elephant. They will eat the leaves, strip the bark and indulge in the fruit. Many believe the elephants get drunk off the fruit, unfortunately this is nothing but a myth.

These fruit are only able to contain alcohol once they are fermented, with many animals eating the fruit, there is almost no time for the fruit to ferment. And if there were time, the elephants would need to eat an absurd amount of marula fruit to be intoxicated.

A very adorable Striped Kingfisher giving us the evil eye.

As small and adorable as they look, these kingfishers are extremely territorial and aggressive when need be.
They will advertise and defend their territory by singing from tree tops just before sunrise, their singing will slowly decrease throughtout the day, resuming late evening.

They tend to be very aggressive against shrikes, doves and rollers- probably for food purposes(as this specie of kingfishers do not necessarily eat fish only).
