This translucent blob was once a jellyfish. Unfortunately, jellyfish are not strong swimmers and are often washed ashore by currents and wind.

It's impossible to tell if this jellyfish was fully intact when it washed up or if it had already been partially consumed in the water. Despite being venomous, jellyfish have numerous natural predators, both in the sea and on the shore, including triggerfish, tuna, sharks, sea turtles, whales, penguins, crabs seabirds and even other jellyfish.

This particular jellyfish's venomous bits have already been devoured by plough snails or picked apart by birds.

There is some more egg laying in progress at Kanon today.

This little female is laying her egg in the sand, right where the beach meets the grass. Unfortunately, this egg will likely get washed away during the next "king" tide.
