Fascinating facts about great white sharks:

1. **Detect Electrical Fields**:
Great white sharks have specialized organs called ampullae of Lorenzini that allow them to detect the electromagnetic fields produced by other animals. This helps them locate prey even in murky waters.

2. **Record-Breaking Travels**:
They are known for their long-distance migrations. One great white shark, tagged by researchers, traveled from South Africa to Australia and back, covering more than 20,000 kilometers (12,427 miles) in under nine months.

3. **Tooth Factory**:
Great whites have several rows of teeth that are constantly replaced throughout their lives. They can lose and replace thousands of teeth in a lifetime, ensuring they always have sharp teeth ready for hunting.

4. **Unique Hunting Strategy**:
These sharks are known for breaching—the act of jumping out of the water. They often do this when hunting seals, using the element of surprise and their immense speed to catch prey off guard.

5. **Warm-Blooded**:
Unlike most fish, great white sharks can maintain a body temperature higher than the surrounding water. This adaptation, known as regional endothermy, helps them stay active in colder waters.

6. **Powerful Sense of Smell**:
They can detect a single drop of blood in 25 gallons (100 liters) of water and can sense tiny amounts of blood up to 3 miles (5 kilometers) away.

7. **Social Behavior**:
Though often seen as solitary hunters, great whites can exhibit social behaviors. They sometimes gather in groups at feeding sites and may even have a social hierarchy.

8. **Notable Lifespan**:
Great white sharks can live up to 70 years or more, making them one of the longest-lived shark species.

9. **Slow Reproduction**:
They mature slowly, with females reaching reproductive age at around 33 years old and males at about 26 years. This slow reproduction rate makes them vulnerable to population declines.

10. **Iconic Status**:
Great white sharks gained significant fame and public interest after the release of the movie "Jaws" in 1975, which, despite its fictional portrayal, sparked both fascination and fear of these apex predators.
