This is one beach that it's not recommended to swim in as the strong currents can carry swimmers out to sea, so it's best just to get ankle deep in the water. In saying that it is a great spot for surfers and body boarders.

Did you know that Mossel Bay is the only north-facing beach in Southern Africa?

The beaches are very popular especially during the holiday seasons, be prepared for some traffic but in the end it will be worth it! The Dias Museum Complex explains the historical landing of Dias in 1488 and a replica of the Caravel is housed in the museum. Due to its abundant history, there are many museums in the town including the Maritime Museum, the Granery, the Shell Museum and the Cultural History Museum. All well worth a visit.
