BLUE FLAG BEACHES
The Mossel Bay Municipal environmental officer, Mushfiqah Abrahams (second from left) and the Executive Mayor of Mossel Bay, Alderman Dirk Kotzé (middle), members of the Mayoral Committee and the acting Municipal Manager visited Santos Beach to celebrate the Blue Flag Beach status afforded to five of the local beaches.
The Blue Flag award is a way of informing local and foreign visitors that accredited beaches are clean, secure and most importantly environmentally safe.
Blue Flag is managed in South Africa by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA), in partnership with the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and participating coastal authorities under the department's Coast Care programme.
South Africa boasts a large number of beaches that have been awarded the international Blue Flag status. Mossel Bay Municipality was awarded 5 Blue Flag status beaches for the 2021/2022 season:
⛱ Santos Beach
⛱ De Bakke Beach
⛱ Hartenbos Main beach
⛱ Klein Brak Main beach
⛱ Glentana Main beach
Blue flag season for 2021/2022 will run from 01 December 2021 up until 31 January 2022 between 08:00 and 17:00 with the following services:
⛱ Security
⛱ Lifeguards
⛱ Ablution facilities
⛱ Wheelchair friendly ablutions
⛱ Environmental Education (dates will be stipulated on Blue Flag Boards)
⛱ Regular water quality sampling at the 5 beaches.
