Kamberg Valley Hideaway Kamberg Valley Hideaway offers luxury self-catering accommodation, on a 27-ha smallholding, nestled between Kamberg & Highmoor Nature Reserves, Drakensberg

Kamberg Valley Hideaway is located in a peaceful and tranquil part of the Drakensberg. If you are looking for a break away from the stress of everyday life, then visit us at Kamberg Valley Hideaway, only 35kms from Nottingham Road, 200kms from Durban Airport and about 450kms from Johannesburg. The property is 27.4ha and has a dam about one hectare in size which is well stocked with rainbow trout.

Guests can also take a stroll down to the Little Mooi River, which borders the property and enjoy the peace, quiet and beauty of nature and the sound of the flowing river. We are also within in a stone's through of Highmoor Nature Reserve, were you can enjoy leisurely walks on the foothills of the Drakensberg, or if fishing is your hobby, try your luck in their well stocked trout fishing dams. Kamberg Nature Reserve is 11kms away and here you can take a hike with a guide to some of the best Bushman's Rock Art Painting in South Africa. We also have a crane sanctuary close by, horse trails are available down the road, and we offer photography workshops, to those of you who are budding photographers. The accommodation is self-catering, but extremely spacious and luxurious. We have three different self catering cottages that sleep from 2 to 6 people. All the cottages have fully equipped kitchens with gas hobs, electric ovens, microwaves and a fridge / freezer. The kitchen / living and dining areas are all open plan and open on to private patio / braai areas, containing a braai, outside dining table and chairs and have stunning mountain views with lots of privacy! We can only accommodate a maximum of 14 guests, so this is the perfect place to escape for a break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! If you don't wish to cook each night, the local pub cooks up some delicious meals and we also have another restaurant 2kms away, where you can treat yourselves to a scrumptious 7 course evening meal. We have 2 self-catering cottages on the property:

Forest Cottage: Sleeps 6 people in 3 spacious bedrooms. Main Bedroom en-suite with large bath. Bedroom 2 and 3 share a bathroom with a large walk in shower. The cottage has a spacious living area with a wood burning fireplace, well equipped kitchen with a dishwasher as well as a securely fenced garden for your pets.
Accommodation starts at R750 per person per night sharing. Minimum of 2 ppl for 2 nights.

Sunset Cottage: Sleeps 4 people comfortably in 2 spacious bedrooms. The Main bedroom has a day bed for a young child. Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with large showers. The cottage has a spacious living area with a wood burning fireplace and a well equipped kitchen. This cottage also has a securely fenced garden for your pets.
Accommodation starts at R700 per person per night sharing. Minimum of 2ppl for 2 nights.

We are pet-friendly and allow you dogs access to the property to walk around the dam and down to the river.

Guest are able to fish in out dam ! Fly fishing and bass fishing allowed. This is not a big dam so for more serious fishing please let us know and we can advise on other options in the area.

Hiking in the area - Highmoor Nature Reserve is 10km up the road and Kamberg Nature Reserve is 14km from our property.

Forest Cottage is our 3 Bedroom cottage which sleeps 6 people. The Cottage is securely fenced which allows our guests to travel with their dogs and relax while they are secure in the garden.

We felt so privileged to spend a cherished four nights with you at Kamberg Valley Hideaway. You are the most wonderful and generous hosts, and you couldn’t have done more to ensure our stay be any better. The fabulously fresh eggs (that were enjoyed immensely) and the most delicious cottage cheese and feta were such a lovely welcoming touch. I am just sorry we didn’t realise how delicious that cottage cheese and feta was going to be - I would have stocked up to take these treats home! Richard your sourdough bread and your Granny’s lemon cake are something dreams are made of 😊

There couldn’t have been a more perfect place to spend quality time with our family from Texas, and of course our five beloved Labradors! The gentleness of this perfect Hideaway was the ideal spot for us all to unwind and relax together after long flights and a very demanding year.

Your accommodation is generous, excellently appointed and soooo comfortable. This all comes together so perfectly in one of the most beautiful areas in our country, and there is so much exploring to be done in and around the Midlands.

Richard, thank you so much for taking the time to share your paradise with us. You made farming seem so perfect, easy and enviable!

We were all sad to have to have to say goodbye to our new best friends, but knowing we will be returning soon made our departure tolerable.

This morning we decided to try out a hike at Highmoor Nature Reserve that we haven’t done before. It was the hike to the View Point. A 9.5kms round trip and WOW! Talk about feeling like you are on top of the world! Absolutely incredible views of the Drakensberg! A bit hazy as we haven’t had rain for months, but still spectacular!

What a stunning day to enjoy a hike at Highmoor Nature Reserve. We popped up this morning for a short (1.5 hour) hike before our guests arrived. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. You feel like you are on top of the world at this spot!

It’s that beautiful time of year in The Drakensberg. Bright, dry, sunny days and cooler early mornings and evenings, bringing g most across the dam in the early morning! So stunning!
