This Easter weekend, the Oceans Artists Collective will host a curated exhibition in Struisbaai. Join us!
There will be 11 artists participating, with mediums ranging from watercolours, oils, inks, pastels, charcoal, spray paint, wood and clay. Something for everybody.

Over the years, bird-watchers in the have spotted a number of interesting rare species that normally would not have occurred in our region.

One of these species is the Amur Falcon (𝘍𝘢𝘭𝘤𝘰 𝘢𝘮𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴) – a small falcon that visits South Africa in the summer, but usually prefers the eastern parts of the country. However, they have been spotted in the Overberg, often over the Overberg Wheatbelt, from October to May.

The species only breeds in Russia, Mongolia and parts of North Korea, and moves down to Africa (mainly to Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe). But in order to get here, Amur Falcons move through some countries, such as India, where they are known to have been captured for food in the past, often in their hundreds of thousands.

These falcons mostly eat insects – so the locusts that emerge in the Overberg in summer, following the late winter rains, provide them with ample food. They’re listed as Least Concern on the
