ABOUT US
Knead is an artisan bakery and neighbourhood café. We bake bread, pastries and confectionery on-site, every day, using traditional techniques to ensure our customers get everything oven-fresh. Our Knead bakery cafés offer a simple, but versatile menu that uses only wholesome, local ingredients served in a relaxed, rustic setting. Started in 2006 with our first bakery café in Wembley Square, we’ve since expanded to add more outlets across the Cape Town area
OUR BREAD
Our Artisan breads take time, effort, and most of all, patience. Everything is handcrafted from scratch. Knead uses no preservatives, improvers, premixes or stabilizers. The ingredients are carefully selected and are totally natural. We only use local stoneground flour and most of our breads use sourdough starters, which work together with naturally occurring wild yeasts that create richer, more interesting flavours and a unique texture.
Our bread dough is gently mixed and hand shaped before being given a lengthy fermentation. The process harks back to time-honoured methods, and the bread is freshly baked on the floor of the oven in true artisan style. Our team start baking in the early morning and work throughout the day, which guarantees our customers freshness, all day, every day.
We bake a full range of classic continental breads and rolls for sale direct to the public, or to be enjoyed with a meal in our bakery café. We also offer a range of handmade confectionary, sweet and savoury pastries, pies, cookies, muffins and cupcakes.
