Our 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 (15 August to 15 September) are well underway, and we’re sharing more of our special species this .

The 𝘡𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘢 𝘰𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘢 – also known as the Scented arum or Soetvarkblom – is not always easy to see in the veld. This rare species is endemic to a small area of the Escarpment near . Since these arums often grow in and among rocks where water is retained longer, they favour the region’s dolerite 'koppies'.

This winter-growing white flower’s sweet scent and elegant leaves make it a rare treasure to find this season – so keep your eyes peeled while flower hunting!

// Spring Flower Tours // 🌸🌼

For one month only, Hantam National Botanical Garden founding curator and Hantam floral expert Eugene Marinus will host Spring Flower Tours in this colourful garden, situated 5kms outside Nieuwoudtville in the Northern Cape.

Starting 15 August to 15 September, this local botanical legend will take you to secret spots off the beaten track, to a variety of rare and special bulbs that only appear come springtime, and that create an incredible spring floral display.

These tours are organised by national BotSoc, the West Coast BotSoc Branch and Eugene Marinus, in collaboration with the South African National Biodiversity Institute.

We’ll also have a botanical specimen display at the garden, designed by BotSoc – to show you all the specials in the Hantam area. And we’ll be hosting an information stand, so pop in and chat to our BotSoc members at our stand.

The upcoming Spring Flower Tours at the Hantam National Botanical Garden offer invaluable conservation exposure and diverse botanical tourism opportunities to visitors. But 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 to carry the torch!

We're looking for volunteers to help for a day or two, to run a BotSoc stand at the Hantam NBG, 5kms outside Nieuwoudtville, between 20 August and 15 September. Get involved with our Spring Flower Tours by helping us set up the floral specimen display, making our publications and fact sheets available and engaging visitors on what BotSoc is all about. The stay is for your own expense, but volunteers can enjoy a free tour (when they're available), and BotSoc members get free access into the garden.

If you would like to volunteer – or for more information – send an email to: [email protected]
