Great vantage point for this leopard to look out for prey.
A remarkable sighting today. Pretty rare to see a python but to see one being killed by a saddle-billed stork and eventually eaten is much rarer.
The great thing about the northern Kruger Park is when you get lions like this you often have them completely to yourself. Spent half an hour on the road with them this morning.
A great way to bring in the New Year!
Have to admit the weather this afternoon and evening was something I will always remember. And what a great sunset to finish off the day…
Afraid there was only a marabou stork at the end of this rainbow. Great view after an hour of torrential rain though.
So, what started out as a relaxed drive on the 4x4 road ended up with some explosive action this morning! I slowed down for a herd of impala only to have this leopard leap out a few meters in front of us and grab this youngster. Right place at the right time…
And here are the vultures and one of the hyenas with their feast!
Bit of a tearjerker here. An elephant died about five days before with the hyenas and vultures spending those days eating it. And then, after all of this time, a group of elephants came down to the carcass. The eldest male spent ages going over the body with his trunk while the others stood a respectful distance away. After about a quarter of an hour the old boy walked to the top of the ridge and let out a long, wailing trumpet. The other males fell in line and followed him away from the scene. An amazing sighting. I have never seen such an elephant “wake” like this before.
Well, over the years I have seen strange things but to have wild dogs chase an ostrich and then just stand next to it as if they were mates is one of the strangest!
The one male was getting a little bored knowing he will be sitting around a few days watching his brother mating with this female.
Nice follow up from the leopard last night was to get this one relaxing in a tree.
Spent 15 minutes with this leopard tonight on the night drive. Couple of elephants behind us and a herd of buffalo down the way as well. Ngwenyeni was the spot tonight!
An easy one. Which animal is being followed by a ____?
“Where’s Dora”! A little on the cool side but some nice sightings and good company made up for it.
Cold morning in the park to spend with some chilled elephants.
Super nice to get this lone cheetah on a kill this morning at Ngwenyeni.
While smaller rivers in the Kruger Park might appear to be dry there is normally a fresh supply if you just dig a bit for it. Peaceful scene this morning with one of my favourite bird calls as a soundtrack.
Love the contrasting colours in autumn - trees are still green and the grass turning gold. And some lionesses add a bit too.
Ridiculous colours at sunrise today! Perk of the job is seeing this scene every morning.
Lazy morning for these three lionesses. And to think they only moved about 100 metres from where we saw them yesterday morning.
Very fortunate this morning to see the mother leopard with her youngster. And today's lesson? Pouncing hornbills!
10 out of 10 landing for this white-backed vulture. Was great to see around fifty of them feeding on a carcass - unfortunately hidden behind bushes.
Brrrrr... with the first chills of winter in the morning these tree squirrels had the perfect solution to stay warm.

We were fortunate to come across the pack of wild dogs late in the afternoon. After twenty minutes of watching them play and scent mark we saw immidiately the moment they picked up the impala and instantly went into hunting mode. Three impalas were caught in less than a minute in the ensuing commotion. Compared to the likes of lions who kill their prey through strangulation or suffocation wild dogs are mercifully quick.
We had quite the show with this big boy. His mate was further down and even joined in with a duet. Awesome way to start the morning.
Sometimes you find lions and sometimes they find you! Very fortunate yesterday to get this pride of six just relaxing right next to the road. And very relaxed to boot.
One of my favourite things in the bush is to hear alarm calls of birds. You never know quite what you will get - a leopard, snake or, in this case, a pearl-spotted owl. #owl
Not sure what they ate the previous night but it must have been something big. Counted 12 lions including three males and all of their bellies were huge! #lions
And he just came walking towards us without a care in the world. Such a lovely leopard this morning!
And after a short wait all four cheetah paraded in front of us - one-by-one. Such amazing cheetah sightings recently! #cheetah
