Orienteering is back. The format is the same, you have a set time to find as many control points as possible (using a map and point descriptions) and get back to the start/finish point. The difference is that we are now using an app on your phone to scan a QR Code at each control point. The App also controls your time and allows you to upload your results when finished. Check out www.iorienteering.com for more info and to download the app (for free)
This format means that the control points are now left in place for a set time (usually 4 weeks) and once you have purchased your map, you can run (or walk) the course at any time that suits you, and them upload your results to see how you shaped.
The couses are aimed at people of all speeds and ability. Our maps are taken from a Google Earth Image, so will be familiar to most people. The set time limits means that you can choose how many control points you want to get to and also that you know how long you will be out there for. To give you an idea, to get all of the control points in a one hour running event you will need to cover approximately 10km.
We currently have a 1 hour (Trail Running) course set up in Hilton, Starting and Finishing in front of the new Harcourts Building opposite the Hilton Hotel (Near Ground Coffee). This will be in place for the whole of April. The cost to take part is R75 per map. One team per map, but a team can be anything from one person to a crowd. For more info or to purchase a map contact Donovan on 0769093412 or come into Hyde Park Coffee 101 Roberts Road in Clarendon PMB.
Mainly outdoors, but a little out the box.
