Artlure Angling Club

KZN Artlure Angling is a club for those who enjoy the thrill of fishing.

Artlure or Artificial Lure Angling can be described as “the art of catching as many of the species of fish in a body of water as possible using only artificial lures”. Artlure Angling Club is as much about fishing as it is about making friends with like-minded people. Artlure often hosts club days and other events where new and old members alike are invited to come together and fish competitively

. These strongly fished battles are then laid to rest as we all come together for an afternoon braai and a few beers. Fishermen's tales are hashed and rehashed with the distance between the storytellers fingers growing in direct proportion to the number of beers that they have had. Artlure is about growing the sport that we all love and sharing our knowledge with one another. It allows us to explore new places and embrace the outdoors as we search for untamed waters and elusive fish.

Our Googan Baits / Artlure Angling Club Christmas Charity Bass Challenge raised some great funding which will go towards FreeMe Wildlife's new clinic in Howick. Here, I'm handing over the cheque to CEO of FreeMe Wildlife, Wade Whitehead and Annette. Was great to support the fantastic work that FreeMe does with respect to rescue, rehabilitation and release of our local fauna.

Tyron Blignaut fishing alongside dad Brian, with his 2 fish bag limit of 3.256kg and a respectable 4th place overall in the Juniors section. Well done Tyron.

Vian Senekal fishing with Mark Holder brought in the heaviest bass in the Junior's category with a fish of 2.185kg. The combined weight of his best 2 fish totalled a bag of 3.840kg. Good enough for 3rd place.

I'd also like to lastly but certainly not leastly, say a big thank you once again to Tarryn Saville for her incredible help with the weighing of fish during the Googan Baits - Artlure Angling Club Christmas Charity Bass Challenge. Once all fish are weighed, you patiently go through all paperwork to sift out results so that we're able to set out and allocate a prize table for the day such that prize-giving runs super smoothly. You are a star. THANK YOU.!!

Again, when it came to places in the heaviest fish category, prizes were awarded to Men and Ladies down to 3rd position and Juniors down to 5th.

Just run through these pictures showing prize product from our generous sponsors of the Googan Baits - Artlure Angling Club Christmas Charity Bass Challenge 2019. Not pictured are some fresh produce hampers (sitting on cold storage due to the hot day,) as well as vouchers, on their own totalling in excess of R7k, from weekends and nights away at fantastic accommodation venues, tackle vouchers, photography shoots, coffee vouchers, canopy tour vouchers in Karkloof and boat motor services. Add to this, goodie bags to all competing anglers and this makes this a wonderful event to attend in support of charity.

Young Tristan Saville, fishing as a Junior on board with Gavin Richardson and dad Clifford, brought 2 very good fish to the scales, earning himself 2nd place in the Junior's overall 2 fish limit bag category.

Bryan Leppan (Googan Baits title sponsor) with his 2 best of the day and boat partner Bryce van der Merwe used Zman Jackhammers to get some quality river fish to the scales, for a respectable 3rd place overall in the Team 4 fish bag weight category. Well done boys.

Marc Meyer combined these 2 fish with partner Kirk van Reeuwyks 2 biggest fish, to take second place overall in the Men's bag total with a weight of 9.374kg.

Roy Cannon (minus holding his 4.402kg fish weighed earlier in the day) and boat partner Paul Vermeulen won the overall Men's bag, with a four fish total of 9.842kg.

Sorika Norton with a 2 fish bag total weight of 2.080kg, giving her second heaviest fish (1.290kg) and second heaviest bag in the Ladies category.

Well done Bryce van for Merwe, for a sterling effort with these two fish (2nd and 3rd heaviest bass in the Juniors catagory), to take the heaviest Junior bag total weight for 2 fish, 4.267kg.

Michelle De Oliveira took both the Ladies heaviest fish prize (1.301kg) and with a combined 2 fish total weight of 2.456kg, the prize for the heaviest Ladies bag too. Great fishing Michelle.

The 2 fish limit total weight per angler is the sought after grail in this event and we saw some awesome bags in three categories, with Men and Ladies top three positions and top five positions for the competing Juniors.

The interesting format of a four fish total bag which needed to comprise of two fish a piece from each team member, produced some great results on the day where teams were rewarded for consistency in being able to each bring good fish to the scales. Here are your top five teams in this respect. Well done chaps.

Well, that's a wrap for the 2019 installment of the Googan Baits - Artlure Angling Club Christmas Charity Bass Challenge held at Albert Falls Dam, Saturday 14 December in support of FreeMe Wildlife. Hi Guys. A quick video to remind you all of our ZMAN Artlure Angling Club Christmas Charity Bass Challenge happening this Saturday at Albert Falls. Looking forward to seeing all you chaps out there supporting a very worthwhile cause. A special thanks to our all our fantastic sponsors of this event. Entry forms will be available at registration. Remember to bring along R50 value worth of stationary such as A4 pads, pens and pencils, sticky tape, envelopes, lever arch files, etc. This also gets donated to our Charity, God's Warehouse and has been a special request of theirs this year.
