From a practice of spending time in nature observing and recording changes in nature over time, a pathway of our journeys surfaced, incorporating mankind’s history, our personal history, nature connection, nature immersion, nature valuing and an opening of our senses to a deeper knowing of belongi...

Love this man .... opening up to now, to miracles.

You have traveled too fast over false ground;
Now your soul has come to take you back.

Take refuge in your senses, open up
To all the small miracles you rushed through.

Become inclined to watch the way of rain
When it falls slow and free.

Imitate the habit of twilight,
Taking time to open the well of color
That fostered the brightness of day.

Draw alongside the silence of stone
Until its calmness can claim you.

Be excessively gentle with yourself.

The alchemy of living and dying .....

The Old Stump's Story - was struck this morning by how much of a tale can be told around this single photo of an old pine stump....a tale of continued supporting of life, even in death...a tale of recyclers at work busily and steadily de-constructing, disassembling and decomposing to make raw materials available for new life to emerge...the tale of an extraordinarily large puffball and what this says of the amount of nutrients available and of the surrounding vegetation...the tale of sharing resources and finding a niche with the presence of at least 4 different types of fungi...the tale of the decomposing stump helping to attract and retain moisture so that damp-loving mosses can grow...the presence of a seedling growing gamely in the centre of the stump and the tale this tells of the effectiveness of the recyclers ...the blackened bark and the tale this tells of the fire that raced through the area....and this all just for starters without going up close, without breaking open a piece of the bark to find the insect and microbial life at work. How often do we take time to stop, look and listen that we may see and hear the tales being told and understand the lessons to be learned in those tales?

I saw a quote yesterday evening from Georgia O'Keefe. It goes like this:
"I've been absolutely terrified every moment of my life - and I've never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do."

It was so apt as I'm absolutely terrified to show you this picture. The yellow is so bold and and I'm not sure about the words. And my tummy is knots writing this.

I spent around 40 hours painting this picture and went through the usual process of:
'Great idea - can't wait to do it - oh my gosh you idiot - it's awful, just awful - oooh, I like that bit so I'll keep going - yes it's ok - it's rubbish - just get a job and stop putting yourself through this'.
And I'm absolutely not kidding. I've been thinking so much this week about the precarious life of a full time artist.

So here it is, and I hope you like it. Or some of it. Maybe the hare's eye or the ladybirds on the roses. The words are from Khalil Gibran.
