Every year on 1 December the slave bell is rung to commemorate the abolishment of slavery in 1834, to remember the area's slave heritage and honour the slaves that shaped this community.
✨️When: Sunday 1 December 2024
✨️Where: Pniël Cong. Church

Forms part of the Advent and Communion Service at 10:00. A short program to follow at Die Werf.
The ringing of the slave bell at 12:00.

Roosterkoek is more than just a traditional South African dish; it’s a culinary thread woven through the fabric of the country’s history. The roots of this beloved bread can be traced back to the indigenous Khoi people, who are believed to have cooked bread on open fires long before the arrival of European settlers.

While the exact origins of Roosterkoek are a blend of historical conjecture and cultural tradition, it became a staple for the Voortrekkers—Afrikaner pioneers who journeyed inland during the Great Trek.
