We also have the placid Kowie River that is
navigable for 25 kilometres. The riverside vegetation is beatiful and unspoiiled. But one of the words most often used to describe this gem of the place I call home is UNIQUE! There are so many charming, quaint and cute aspects to this place that I’d like to share them with the world. I don’t want Port Alfred to be the East Cape’s best-kept secret, whic
h is what it’s been for so many years. This place is so divine and different it’s time it was shared with many others. Folks come from all over the world and each year we welcome more and more “swallows” – people who come and live with us as residents for many months at a time. people who have bought a home here and find they stay longer and longer – until one day they decide Port Alfred has truly become home. Once we were a retirement destination, a Waiting-for-God kind of place. But no more. Many, many young families now call Port Alfred home. The lifestyle for families is wonderful, children run free and enjoy an old-fashioned childhood with beaches to run on, water to swim in, lots of places to explore. And guess what? Living in a small town like Port Alfred keeps you feeling and looking younger. There’s so little stress and you have time to “smell the roses” rather than car fumes. Nothing is more than 5 minutes away so you actually can make the most of every day.
