Madikwe Game Reserve is home not only to the Big Five of Africa (Lion, Buffalo, Elephant, Rhino and Leopard), but also to a wealth of over 66 mammal species, including the rare African Wild Dog, as well as Cheetah, Eland, Kudu, Giraffe and a range of more than 300 resident and migratory species of birds. Situated on the Botswana border, just three hours' drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria,

Madikwe is one of the largest private game reserves in South Africa. The safari reserve consists of vast plains of open woodlands and grasslands, dissected by a ridge of rugged hills and bordered in the south by the Dwarsberg Mountains. The area is dotted with huge rocky outcrops known as inselbergs. Madikwe is one of few game reserves in the world that was proclaimed a wildlife reserve purely on the grounds of being the most appropriate and sustainable land area for such use.

Wild dogs are formidable pack hunters but they are very aware that a Zebra can easily kill one of them with a well placed kick.

We waited patiently next to a recent Wildebeest kill for the lion to come and feed, We could see them playing in the distance and we could only hope that something was going to happen

We found the wild dogs eating on a zebra carcass. What an amazing experience this is, to watch them so closely feeding. These are truly amazing experiences that you can witness.

Impalas are so beautiful and they have adapted in so many ways and this had let to their success. Most animals are skittish when they approach water because danger can be close by.

Its always a exciting moment when you become part of the wild dog pack as they run across the African plains. They are definitely a favorite amongst our guests.

Dark Mane Mahiwa busy attending the ladies. We found him one morning relaxing with a pride of females next to a dam. He has a pretty large territory and two prides within.

Madikwe is starting to move into the winter months, where the colors shift from lush green to browns & reds. These lions are enjoying the last bit of summer in the tall grass in the shade.
