WE HAVE EXCITING NEWS!
PCR Tests have been dropped for vaccinated travellers entering South Africa , but we caution those traveling in the next few days.
While we are very excited about President Ramaphosa’s announcement last night, 22 March, that Travellers entering SA must show proof of vaccination OR a PCR test. There are no details yet, and this has not yet been gazetted or published on any SA.gov website.
Airlines DO NOT KNOW about this speech, which also does not contain the detail needed for them to validate requirements, and many of them use 3rd party providers like Sherpa, who confirm information with official written sources. Information on airline websites and information given to the staff who are responsible for vetting documents are not going to be updated overnight. If challenged, you will not be able to point them to any reliable, written, official source to be boarded.
Therefore we advise all our travellers to continue to abide by the PCR requirement as they currently stand IF you are traveling in the next few days – until information has clearly been published, including how this may apply to children etc. Otherwise, you risk denied boarding to SA.
If you are not traveling just yet – sit tight, and try not to speculate , the draft of the new health regulations is still subject to public comments and there are a few clauses that need to be removed or adjusted in that draft, so until the middle of April when the regulations are finally made official, the situation remains fluid and anything could change at short notice.
The regulations will be coming out with more detail soon, and we will provide those as soon as we have it, but it looks like it will be very good news for those who are vaccinated.
