Trois fois plus de bonheur que prévu ! 🤗🐆

Ce matin-là, nous avons eu la chance incroyable d'observer une famille de léopards dans leur habitat naturel.

Tout a commencé avec l'observation d'un jeune léopard perché dans un arbre, savourant un reste de carcasse. Quelques heures plus tard, de retour sur les lieux, nous avons assisté à une scène improbable. Le jeune léopard saute de l'arbre et s'enfuit dans les buissons, disparaissant à nos yeux.

C'est alors qu'un autre léopard, plus âgé et imposant, est apparu de l'autre côté de la route. Il s'agissait sans aucun doute de la mère.

Elle a traversé la route d'un pas déterminé et s'est dirigée vers l'arbre que le jeune léopard avait quitté. Après quelques instants à renifler et à tourner autour du tronc, elle s'est élancée avec agilité et a grimpé sur une branche.

De son perchoir, elle lance des appels insistants. Et à notre grande surprise, ce ne sont pas un, mais deux léopards qui ont répondu à son appel !

Craintifs, ils restent cachés dans la végétation avant que leur mère ne se décide à les rejoindre.
Quel spectacle extraordinaire ! Quelle chance d'avoir pu assister à cette réunion familiale si précieuse 🍀

Symbiose rugueuse : le buffle et les pique-bœufs 🐃🐦‍⬛

Le buffle, colosse de la savane, cohabite avec les pique-bœufs dans une relation symbiotique mutuellement bénéfique.
Les pique-bœufs se nourrissent de parasites sur le buffle, le soulageant, tandis que le buffle leur fournit un garde-manger.

Cependant, les pique-bœufs, dans leur zèle, peuvent devenir agaçants, picorant même dans les yeux et les narines du buffle !

Ce ballet parfois houleux témoigne de l'interdépendance complexe des écosystèmes.

Rough symbiosis: the buffalo and the oxpeckers 🐃🐦‍⬛

The buffalo, a colossus of the savanna, coexists with oxpeckers in a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship.

Oxpeckers feed on parasites on the buffalo, providing it with relief, while the buffalo provides them with a feeding ground.

However, oxpeckers, in their zeal, can become annoying, even pecking at the buffalo's eyes and nostrils!

This sometimes rowdy ballet is a testament to the complex interdependence of ecosystems.

Up and coming tusker.

We observed this elephant bull crossing a drainage line, and positioned the vehicle in what we thought would be the most likely point he would choose to come out.

Our intuition paid off, and he walked right in front of us, with a hint of speed. Little did we know there was an older bull, in full musth, hot on his heels.

The much sought after "big 5".

The majority of people that go on safari dream of seeing these five mammals. Although some, such as the leopard are more elusive, and as a result generally more difficult to find than others, there's always a chance that you might see them all.

However, there's so much more to these wilderness areas than just ticking off the big 5 - they play a small role in the much bigger picture of the functioning of ecosystems, but we do admit, they are incredible to look at.
