For decades it was thought that giraffe were socially aloof. That there were no lasting bonds between individuals.

More recent research, however, indicates otherwise.
Some experts even go as far as to say that, socially, they are not unlike elephants.

Looking back at a few of our favourite leopard sightings from 2024.

No matter what anyone says, this animal has it all. Beauty, ferocity, strength and skill.

An efficient, adaptable predator and regularly right at the top of the "to-see" list for many travellers to Africa.

The Greater Kruger National Park is renowned for its big cat sightings, and leopards are no exception.

Fortunately, in many of these reserves, the leopards have become habituated (not tame, they are still completely wild animals) towards safari vehicles and will often allow you to spend considerable time with them, with them completely disregarding your presence.

This allows you to view a wild leopard act 100% naturally, as if you were not there. How crazy is that?!

Black Dam.

One of the dominant lions of Thornybush game reserve. They came, saw and conquered.

Each region of the greater Kruger has its dominant males, and these coalitions ebb and flow as new, prime males move into an area.

Regardless, the dynamics of lion prides shift each time a new coalition takes over.

Learning about these dynamics on safari while being in the presence of these formidable cats is difficult to put into words. You have to experience it to truly understand. They are the ultimate big cat.

Souvent redoutés, les vautours jouent un rôle crucial dans l'équilibre des écosystèmes africains. 🦅

En tant que charognards, ils débarrassent l'environnement des carcasses d'animaux, prévenant ainsi la propagation de maladies. ☠️

Sur cette carcasse, nous avons pu observer quatre espèces différentes, dont ces trois vautours :

1 # Vautour africain
2 # Vautour chasse-fiente
3 # Vautour oricou

Malheureusement, ces espèces majestueuses sont toutes menacées d'extinction, notamment à cause de l'empoisonnement, de la perte d'habitat et du braconnage.

Trois fois plus de bonheur que prévu ! 🤗🐆

Ce matin-là, nous avons eu la chance incroyable d'observer une famille de léopards dans leur habitat naturel.

Tout a commencé avec l'observation d'un jeune léopard perché dans un arbre, savourant un reste de carcasse. Quelques heures plus t**d, de retour sur les lieux, nous avons assisté à une scène improbable. Le jeune léopard saute de l'arbre et s'enfuit dans les buissons, disparaissant à nos yeux.

C'est alors qu'un autre léopard, plus âgé et imposant, est apparu de l'autre côté de la route. Il s'agissait sans aucun doute de la mère.

Elle a traversé la route d'un pas déterminé et s'est dirigée vers l'arbre que le jeune léopard avait quitté. Après quelques instants à renifler et à tourner autour du tronc, elle s'est élancée avec agilité et a grimpé sur une branche.

De son perchoir, elle lance des appels insistants. Et à notre grande surprise, ce ne sont pas un, mais deux léopards qui ont répondu à son appel !

Craintifs, ils restent cachés dans la végétation avant que leur mère ne se décide à les rejoindre.
Quel spectacle extraordinaire ! Quelle chance d'avoir pu assister à cette réunion familiale si précieuse 🍀
