Meet one of iSimangaliso's marine area residents, the sea cucumber. Sea cucumbers range in size between 7 and 30 centimetres in length. They do not have a face, eyes or a true brain and no true sensory organs. Instead, they have a complex network of neurons which helps them experience touch and the presence of light. They can range in colour but are usually well-suited to blend into their native habitats. Sea cucumbers feed on plankton, algae and decaying matter, using tentacles surrounding their mouth. They are nocturnal, meaning they are active during the night.

Celebrate world reef day with us!!! Educate yourself and share awareness. Do you know that South Africa is unique in the sense that 100% of South Africa's coral reefs are in a Marine Protected Area. This is an amazing achievement since many countries have only small percentages of their reefs protected. Here is some tips to save & preserve the ocean - stop/minimize eating seafood(find out where your food comes from how & where it is made) -eliminate single use plastic - use reef save products. -do not buy products that have been removed alive from the coral reef - do not anchor on a coral reef - when snorkeling or diving on a reef- do not touch the coral. adjust your buoyancy before you descend to the reef make sure that you will no bump or break the coral. -Do not collect shells while diving - shells provides a home for other animals.
