It’s been a tough time for areas of North Thailand in recent weeks with flooding affecting thousands of people. Chiang Mai saw unprecedented flooding in parts of the city and province. Despite the hardship, the way that people came together to help each other was heart-warming. We are biased, but Thailand really is amazing. In Chiang Mai, the floodwater has receded and the clean-up is almost complete. With the Loy Krathong and Yi Peng Festival fast approaching, Chiang Mai and North Thailand look forward to welcoming all visitors 👍🙏🇹🇭

Today (October 17) is Awk Phansa Day in Thailand marking the end of the three-month Phansa period. Phansa is the Buddhist rains retreat period when monks would traditionally stay within the confines of their temple. The Phansa retreat period is sometimes referred to as ‘Buddhist Lent’ and ends with Awk Phansa, usually in October 🙏🙏🙏

🏝 The lovely little island of Ko Mai Phai is better known to tourists as Bamboo Island. Part of the Phi Phi Islands group, Bamboo Island is located north of Phi Phi Don. Many tourists miss visiting this island because they travel instead to the more famous Maya Bay. But for a quieter experience, visit Ko Mai Phai where you can swim in the clear waters and relax on the beach away from the crowds. 😎

October 13 is a date when Thailand remembers the late king, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), who passed away on this day in 2016. The Memorial Day in his honour is a public holiday and because it falls on a Sunday this year, Monday will be a substitute public holiday 🙏

🛺 Have you ever seen a tuk-tuk like this?! If you visit the northeast region of Isaan, the ‘Samlor Skylab’ is a common sight on the roads.

🛺 These stylish three-wheeled vehicles offer a practical and affordable way to transport both passengers and goods across the region. The Samlor Skylab is said to have originated in Udon Thani in the 1970s. The name “Samlor” means three wheels, while “Skylab” is an unexpected nod to the US space station of the same name from that era. It’s believed that American soldiers stationed in Udon Thani at the time coined the nickname, and it has stuck ever since.
