Buffalo Stainless Steel Engineering

We recently fabricated this custom grating or sieve, that is a pollution preventer for storm water debris from going into our oceans. Thanks to Apex Shark Expeditions APEX SHARK EXPEDITIONS in SimonsTown for creating the initiative and choosing us for this project. In conjunction with the approval of CoCT.

It took a little bit of an engineering mind to create something that was suitable for the space but also had the ability to open & be emptied as well as for high volumes of water flow with debris.

This was a prototype and we are hoping to create many more of these concepts in the future.

Creating projects like this which positively impacts our environment, is extremely rewarding for us at Buffalo Stainless Steel Engineering.

The Benguela Ballerina

With soft pastel pinks, oranges and blues, the dawn morning broke after Monique and I had spent the calm night aboard our 28ft boat drifting at sea.

It is always raw and wonderful to do this, you are alone at sea in one of the worlds’ most productive systems, the cold Benguela current.
It is a truly wild place filled with mystery, wonder and awe, and there is an incredible beauty here watching the night give way to day.

In the distance we saw a group of humpback whales, and I was especially keen to try to capture a scene of these great creatures in this beautiful light.

Suddenly, very close to where we drifted, and with us still watching the whales in the distance, an as yet unseen humpback blasted clear of the cold Benguela’s grip.

Knowing that the humpbacks often breach again, I quickly got into a position that would really allow me to accentuate the moment against this soft light, that by now was being competed with by the first rays of sun peeping over the horizon.

Then it happened where everything came together, and this huge adult whale soared into the air, resplendent in the pink and gold colours blazing out of the water that rushed off it.

Almost completely clear of the horizon, this is probably as close as I will come to capturing a ‘beautiful’ shot of a whale breach.

It may not necessarily tick what I strive for when separating fine art from wildlife photography, but irrespective, is a reflection of the wonderful art of nature itself.

Apex Shark Expeditions was established 27 years ago as a tour operator/ attraction.
We operate shark tours within the Cape Town metropolitan area. Our headquarters require a vibrant, all-rounder person to handle the shark center tour sales, shop sales, and the meet n’ greet for the trips.

Sales
- Walk-in centre bookings.
- Telephonic bookings.
- Email enquiries.
- The booking platform enquiries
- Upsell land-based tours.
- Shop merchandise sales.

Guest Liaisons:
- Day before guests’ confirmations of shark trip (via telephone/email/WhatsApp)
- Take payments the day before/after the shark trip.
- Updating payment info into the booking platform
- Day before transfer and accommodation checks
- Sightings and availability report for all preferred shark operators and locations sent daily by 10:00 +-
- Daily, week before booking platform checks for all other activities and monitor payments of such activities timeously
- End-of-day report to GM
- Thank you emails to guests.

Shop Merchandise
- Source new products for the center.
- Replenish stock orders as required.
- Price labeling of stock
- Makro order for shop and boat consumables
- Provide GM with monthly Shop sales and Account reports.

Accounting Duties:
- Set up weekly payment run and send to GM.
- Month End: supplying accountant with reports.
- Print and compile Monthly POS reports.

Package:
An advantage if you have a passion for sharks and marine wildlife.
Based in Simon’s Town:
Includes 3 x weekends a month

Skills required:
Experience in tour reservations and the travel/ tour operator industry
Proficient in MS Word, email, excel, and Dropbox.
Attention to detail is key to this job.
People person with good administrative skills
Ability to work in a dynamic environment.

Unwanted, but Beautiful Guests on our Morning Shark Trip Today.

These two are notoriously known as shark killers. Hence the unwanted.
For a short time, their presence tends to lead to the disappearance of sharks in the area. Fortunately, these two have places to be and they rarely stick around for long.
