"Kwanzaa" originates from the Kiswahili phrase "Matunda Ya Kwanza", which means the first fruits of the harvest.

Kwanzaa is not just a celebration; it is a Pan-African festival that provides space for reflection, interactive learning and cultural empowerment. The program includes a ceremonial opening, dialogues, presentations, artistic expressions, educational space for children, an Afrikan market and food stalls with diverse cuisines.

The legendary Pops Mohammed gave us the us the perfect closing for our 2024 Soweto Storytelling. After dining at our Outdoor Restaurant, we gathered around the fire to listen in to Pops' life story, engaging with the audience and jamming to an iconic live performance from the multi instrumentalist jazz musician. We are so grateful for all the storytellers who joined us this year and we are looking forward to meeting you around the fire every Last Thursday of 2025!
