Upon our arrival in St Francis, one of the first things we heard from our local friend, Captain Kev: Canal & River Cruises , is "You have to meet Harry the Hat!" So... we did.

"Mr. Hat" clued us in on his company, Aweigh Adventures, and all the exciting experiences that he has to offer. Being the gypsies that we are, we jumped at the chance to experience even just a little of what Harry had to offer.

Yesterday morning, we packed our backpacks with water, fruit and cameras. Our Wednesday experience began with a guided Two Harbours Trail. This is an open trail to anyone, but Harry has a special way of turning a normal walk into a captivating experience!
Ever heard of beach cabbage?...

Rich with a diverse amount of information, from St. Francis Bay's history to the flora, fauna, tides and environmental education, Harry guided us through our coastal adventure. With every step, we felt enriched with knowledge and a new appreciation for every element of our surroundings.

Arriving at the St Francis Port, we boarded our chariot for the next phase of our adventure - An ocean experience! Accompanied by Captain Kev and our host, Debbie (from Cottage on College), we reveled in the excitement of what was to come.

With the clear, saphire seas surrounding us, Harry shared EVEN MORE of his knowledge with us. We sailed past the the smallest seal colony in South Africa, learned more about the tides and were visited by two passing sea otters! Travelling Toes Africa even got the chance to take the wheel for a bit.

All in all, experiences like this one are what make what we do so exciting. Learning, living and laughing. Aweigh Adventures is definitely one of the best highlights of our Garden Route adventure and we highly recommend a Harry the Hat experience to anyone who visits St Francis.

Good luck to all the contestants!

Welcome and good luck to all paddlers competing in the Eastern Cape Canoe Marathon Champs this weekend, being held right here on the St Francis Canals - spectators welcome, the start & finish is at the river mouth.

It promises to be an exciting warm up for those competing in the SA Marathon Champs, being held for the first time ever in St Francis, on the same course in two weeks time.

VILLAGE HOUSE WELCOMES YOU

Self catering accommodation in St Francis Bay doesn’t get better than this. Located on the gorgeous Southern Coast of South Africa, Village House is only 95km (an hour or so) from the gateway city of Port Elizabeth and 140km from the Ado Elephant Park.

It’s central location within St Francis Bay will afford visitors the pleasure of being able to stroll to the nearby unspoilt beaches, shops, restaurants, fishing spots and 2 Golf Courses.

Whales can be spotted in the Bay from May to late October and dolphins can be seen daily on their way back and forth between the bays of Cape St Francis and Jeffrey’s Bay.

Village House is self catering. We allow pets at management’s discretion (please give us details about your pets in advance).

It has a double story layout and consists of 4 Double Bedrooms & 4 Bathrooms. The first bedroom contains a double bed and a separate bathroom & shower. The second bedroom contains a king-size bed with separate bathroom & bath. The third bedroom contains a king-size bed with en-suite bathroom & shower while the fourth bedroom contains a double bed with en-suite bathroom.

The downstairs area is open plan with a large kitchen, dining and lounge area. The kitchen area contains a fridge freezer, microwave oven, stove, breakfast nook and separate utility room with washing machine and dishwasher. The dining area contains a table with chairs and the lounge has comfortable leather sofas to relax on. There is an additional mezzanine lounge located upstairs with a TV & full DSTV Satellite Television package.

The living area opens up onto a large wooden deck with small swimming pool, outside furniture and recliner chairs – all surrounded by a lush green garden.

Feel like pampering yourself? An added luxury is Pop In Beauty and Nail Bar which is located right next door – owned and managed by us!
